For the price EE or Bautista went for, either one should have been in pinstripes. Dombo probably dropped the ball on that too, but it should be a close shave with the luxury tax threshold.

Were him and Bautista that far off in production between them last season?

Next winter I think they will be more aggressive on the EE types....Batista, man that guy just must be hated so much, that he gets a one year deal at the age of 36 or 37
Not like a great year is gonna earn him that 5 year deal

No one thought Batista was gonna get this deal, about a month and a half ago

EE signed elsewhere for what the Jays offerred him , Ego Bautista got basically zero offers and is coming back for a super short deal which he said he never would............. ego can be a bitch

Bautista was there in 2015. probably a good risk to take for a team that is going over the luxury tax anyway.

Really surprised that both he and EE didn't get more.

Who was it that said they didn't sign Bautista because the fans hate him? Duquette? Thought that was just PR speak, but maybe he was on to something.

Really surprised that both he and EE didn't get more. Especially EE Batista, if 18 million could ever seem embarrassing I guess it is

The Yankees decided to go with Matt Holliday for 5 million dollars cheaper. Were him and Bautista that far off in production between them last season? its about a 35 pt difference in OPS only because Bautista was hurt and bad last year, his OPS dropped about 100 points off what he had been doing in previous years........Holliday's OPS has been low because he has been hurt and bad...period. That is who he is now. Maybe DH will help him a little but he hasn't produced like a good player since 2013, and seeing as he 37, I don't see a major turnaround. Where I could see it with Bautista.

Because Batista is 37 will play next season at age 36. and because he hit 40 and drove in 114 in 2015 then was banged up a lot of last year. If he is healthy, he SHOULD do better than last year...
whereas Holliday IS 37...and got hurt last year for a month and a half, but hadn't done much before that when he was healthy....and out for over a month on 2 different occasions the year before....
like I said, maybe DH can keep him healthy, but I saw him last year quite a bit, not the same hitter he was 4-5 years ago.

Much less likely with Holliday given recent trends. What is cashman doing signing a right handed hitter anyway? I thought the motto was lefties, lefties, and more lefties.

I kinda agree....Yankees wanted a RH bat at DH, and a veteran mixed in what should be a bunch of young guys in the middle of that lineup...........Batista would have filled that bill, but I don't think anyone saw this type of deal coming for Batista, about a month ago

Is it to late for the Red Sox to send the White Sox Castillo and just tell them it's Moncada. You think they'll notice? saw one of those yahoo headlines.....Kopech hits 110mph...
then I look at it and its at some workout facility...and he is crowhopping and throwing into a net 10 ft away, and some clown with a tiny hand held Walmart radar device shows 110.
wasted 3 minutes of my life.......and now 1 more making this post.

He definitely throws hard, but is far from a finished product. He's also been a bit of a headcase. They sold high on him after he was unhittable in the AFL.

Cooper has done well with some of those guys......Repeatable mechanics is his main point of emphasis, and helping guys get there...As fucked up as Sale's motion is, its the same every time.
Kopech, Giolito & Lopez all need work in this area. Hopefully he can get 2 of those 3, because with their stuff, they are all ace potential.
