Reggie McKenzie: We’re always going to be attacking this offseason Posted by Josh Alper on March 13, 2016, 10:13 AM EDT OAKLAND, CA - AUGUST 15: Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie stands on the field before their preseason game against the Detroit Lions at O.co Coliseum on August 15, 2014 in Oakland, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) Getty Images The Raiders made some positive strides on the field last season and General Manager Reggie McKenzie says that helped them land guard Kelechi Osemele, linebacker Bruce Irvin and cornerback Sean Smith early in free agency. Having the cap space to offer them all lucrative contracts certainly didn’t hurt, but McKenzie believes that “people can see what we’re doing” and want to be a part of the Raiders. He said it’s “good to see people call us and not always have to beg” and said that the team isn’t done making moves to bolster the roster before what they hope is the first winning season in Oakland since 2002. “This thing will probably go through the draft,” McKenzie said, via Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group. “You never know when guys are ready to sign. There are still guys getting released. We’re always going to be attacking. If we see someone that can help, we’re going after him.” Repeating the four-win jump that the Raiders made last season won’t be easy, but being better than they were in 2015 shouldn’t be out of reach for a Raider team that’s steadily improved the talent base since McKenzie came on board in 2012. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/13/reggie-mckenzie-were-always-going-to-be-attacking-this-offseason/

Raiders re-sign receiver Andre Holmes Posted by Michael David Smith on March 15, 2016, 7:49 AM EDT Andre Holmes AP The Raiders phased Andre Holmes out of their offense last season, but they still think he has something he can contribute. Holmes and the Raiders reached an agreement on a one-year deal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The contract guarantees Holmes $1 million and can pay him up to $3 million. In 2014 Holmes had a breakout season, starting 13 games and catching 47 passes for 693 yards. But in 2015, even though Holmes was healthy enough to play all 16 games, he started only once and caught only 14 passes for 201 yards. Holmes entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Hillsdale College and bounced around the league with the Vikings, Cowboys and Patriots before finding his place with the Raiders. Now Oakland will be his place for another year. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/15/raiders-re-sign-receiver-andre-holmes/

Raiders continue Nevada flirtation, despite concerns of some owners
Posted by Mike Florio on March 22, 2016, 9:31 AM EDT
When the Raiders first began to flirt with the possibility of building a new stadium in Las Vegas, the NFL sent out a variety of talking points aimed at keeping the door open — and in turn applying maximum pressure to the powers-that-be in Oakland. Some owners either haven’t gotten the memo or have ignored it.
Via Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, Giants co-owner John Mara said during the NFL annual meetings that a move by the Raiders or any team to Nevada would be viewed by “most owners” as a “non-starter,” with the presence of casinos being the primary basis for the objection.
Meanwhile, Raiders owner Mark Davis recently met with Nevada governor Brian Sandoval to continue the discussions regarding a new stadium there.
Ultimately, the NFL can do whatever 24 owners choose to do. If Davis is sufficiently determined to move to Nevada, he can just go, arguing that any effort to tell him where and how to do business violates antitrust laws.
The effort nevertheless feels like an ongoing effort to get Oakland to do something more than it has to try to get a new stadium built in the team’s current hometown, which to date has been nothing.

Report: Raiders reach deal with still-suspended Aldon Smith
Posted by Darin Gantt on April 4, 2016, 1:58 PM EDT The Raiders were willing to give Aldon Smith a chance, knowing he’d miss some time. They’re willing to do it again. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the suspended pass-rusher has agreed to a new deal with the Raiders, and is at the team facility trying to finalize it. Smith was an unrestricted free agent, but there wasn’t much of a hurry to sign him since he’s suspended for a year and won’t be eligible for reinstatement until November. Smith had 3.5 sacks during his nine-game audition with the Raiders last season, but was one of the dominant pass-rushers in the game prior to that, with 42.0 in his first 43 games. The Raiders are trying to help Smith through the myriad off-field problems that have plagued him, and have tried to support him though he won’t be able to help them much this year. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/04/04/report-raiders-reach-deal-with-still-suspended-aldon-smith/

oh fuck yes
The Oakland Raiders filed for three trademarks to the phrase "Las Vegas Raiders" this week, perhaps the next step in a move from Oakland to Sin City. The trademarks seek to give the team the exclusive right to use the name for sporting events and to sell the phrase on everything from helmets to swimsuits to earmuffs.

Gambling is one of the things that puts the nfl ahead of other leagues.

On Tuesday, outgoing U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would support a new domed football stadium that could bring the team to town. The project, which is backed by the Raiders, Las Vegas Sands Corporation and a real estate agency, would cost an estimated $2 billion, with money from a new visitor's tax also proposed to finance the structure.

I think the Fertittas may even get involved after selling the UFC. The deal is going to get done, I hope. We have an NHL team now, still working on the name, and if we get the Raiders the NBA will be falling all over itself to get here too. The stadium deal would also take UNLV to a new level as there is a deal working to have them play all their home games there. Its a crazy time to live here, after decades of being neglected, shit is all coming around.

The rest will be bankrolled by the taxpayers of Las Vegas. The largest taxpayer contribution ever) He certainly looks like a nice fellow. Definitely the kind of guy I would give hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to.

The projection I saw was there would be about a $1.50 per room increase over the next few years to pay for the public money aspect. I still thing 750,000,000 is too much, but it would change everything in Vegas from a major city stand point and I think UNLV would completely benefit and even have a chance at moving up in the conference landscape.
