I know the rays wont be winning many games but Grilli is taking up roster space right now and no good closers available The Angels seem fine with Joe Smith as their closer right now. As such, it will take him falling apart for Grilli to get another shot. REMEMBER, Grilli WAS NOT a closer before last season, and, at 37, he is not likely to right that ship again. As such, I think swapping him for McGee would be a good move. While Maddon will not always go to him to close, his other numbers show him to be the best reliever the Rays have this year. Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. thanks for the advice

Self service beer stations for the A.S game? LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Self-serve beer stations are up and running in Target Field, so Minnesota Twins fans and those who attend the Major League Baseball All-Star festivities next week can decide what they want and even how much they want of it. Gleeman was at Target Field over the weekend and said that they basically looked like the fancy Coke dispensers you’re starting to see at various fast food restaurants. I would hope that it won’t let you mix up beers like you’d mix Fanta and Sprite because, eww, but so far, so good!
The mechanics have a lot of safeguards in it such as requiring you show ID to a real person first and get a pre-paid card with which to fill up your cup at the machines. But the bottom line:
The machine allows a customer to use the card to pour up to 48 ounces of beer every 15 minutes. I think I could make that work. Any more details?
Bud and Bud Light will cost 38 cents an ounce, while Shock Top Lemon Shandy and Goose Island 312 Urban Pale Ale will cost 40 cents an ounce.

The main problem I have with the teams as they were voted would be Weiters catching, and Jeter at SS for the A.L. And, while Hamels I guess could have made the N.L team, it is probably best he didn't, in that he would have been the last pitcher in the pen for that team.

So are the Red Sox buyers or Sellers? Neither. They will stand pat with what they have, in hopes that it is good enough to get them into the playoffs this year, and will start letting their older guys walk as their contract expire, and will build around guys like Mookie Betts going forward.

Did not think of that option either. Personally I think they should just scrap this season and let the young guys play and see what they have. In related Red Sox notes: Red Sox activate Mike Carp from 15 day DL and Herrera optioned

Papi & Pedroia are off limits would be my guess. Uehara is still good and young, so they won't part with him either. Maybe Napoli has value to someone somewhere, but his only average 2014 season so far will not bring back much young talent. They are trying to lock up Lester, so he is out. Clay looks like he is made of same every few outings, so likely no takers on him. They are kind of stuck for this year, and, I am not sure on any of the contract situations there so....?

Uehara is 39 and if I am not mistaken will be 40 before seasons end... He aint a spring chicken anymore.... Will he be as effective as he has been this year, next year... doubt it (they could get a lot for him imo). I do believe the only players who are not up for trades are Pedroia, Ortiz and MAYBE Lester.....

WOW. No idea Uehara was that old.... Well, then they could move him, as he has value right now, and, he could bring back a nice young player or two in return then.

So are the Red Sox buyers or Sellers? Should sell. Try to trade either Lackey or Lester while the trading is good.

The more I think about it, the more BigD's idea is seeming more likely I think the Sox brass knows the Sox have no shot at the playoffs. Word is Lester is going into FA no matter what - so why not trade him and then make him a generous offer in the off season. You lose him then you extend Lackey and hope for the best with the young guys.

Sellers are not just bad teams. Sellers are bad teams that have one or a few good players, with short or expiring contracts, that they want to get rid of this year, in order to bring back in newer and younger players for next year forward.
Sadly, you can be a bad team with old players locked up for a good long time. Teams rarely buy those guys, or deal with those teams.

Didn't they say they would negotiate closer to the end of the season (granted like you mentioned... it's pretty much ovah anyway)

Read that olney thinks he's absolutely testing the FA market.

That said, you can still trade him. But, I would think they wouldn't.

Sox are in pretty good shape in that respect - only have $13 mill committed for 2016 (compared to your Dodgers, for example, that have $170 mill committed and the Yankees that have $158 mill committed).

That is why the Sox are in hold steady mode. They will play out this year with who they have, will let guys like Drew walk, and, they can either fill a spot like that with a kid ( Bogaerts, Betts ), or they can and will be able to go out and spend in the offseason to get someone they like better.

Well, day 2 at the den has now come and gone. However, unlike day [HASH] 1, there was not much happening in here today. However, tomorrow is a new day, which will hopefully bring more action.
