Braves have won 8 in a row and BJ Upton has a hitting streak going. Did Atlanta get moved to an alternate universe or something?

Yeah, when I first heard of it, I laughed pretty hard. Out here in the S.F Bay Area, they call it the "June swoon". Aye, the June Swoom is in full effect. Unfortunately, it looks like it's crept into July as well. They're in a rough spot for Sabean. Is this a team just in a funk and you "buy"? Or is this closer to reality and do you "sell"? I never thought they were as good as their record was before.....and I don't think they're as bad as they've been for the las month+.

On top of the wild card race and you seriously think your team is a seller? Get real, dude. And you just got Brandon Belt back. Maybe his return to the lineup will help Mike Morse who has not done anything in three weeks. Re-evaluate in 20 days.

He is still way too hung over in the afternoon to be effective. And he is, simply put, a crappy player. How he got a $75 million contract is beyond me. Amazing.

Yankees score a run on a missed call. How long will we hear about the Yankees getting every call?

I was more saying if this June swoon lasts until the middle of July. If that's the case, I don't think you can justify taking away from the farm for possible rentals. The Giants are decent sized spenders, but they won't compete with the doggies payroll for the foreseeable future. If they're going to contend with the Dodgers, it'll be through building from within. Hopefully Belt will be a shot in the arm, but right now, it's "wait and see" mode. Don't get me wrong, I'd love Price and Zobrist to come over in a trade, but if it sacrifices too much of the cupboard and they don't resign.....

The pitch that hit Arcia by Thornton today looked to be on purpose. I can't think of any history between Arcia and the Yankees.

jeter : come on, throw strikes!!! it was the Italian Painter that couldn't throw a strike at the end and allowed the winning run.

Man, Bogaerts just looks lost right now. From June 8 to July 5, he's batting .074/.116/.111 in 86 PA. Stephen Drew's batted .151/.184/.274 in 76 PA. So Bogaerts has been making Drew look like Barry Bonds as of late. Bogaerts has only 4 walks and 26 strikeouts over that stretch as well. Prior to that, he was drawing plenty of walks.
Can't expect Bogaerts to tear the majors up as a 21-year-old. he's going to have his struggles... but I wasn't thinking it would be anything like this.

Worse thing the Red Sox could have done this year is sign Stephen Drew. It's been a damaging blow to Bogaert's psyche. His stats before the signing versus after the signing are alarming. You can't tell me it is just coincidence.

It sucks because Bogaerts was one of the few exciting things about the Sox' season thus far. That and Jon Lester.

So, Alfonso Soriano is unemployed. Well, shed no tears. He is getting his $ 18 mil for this year, playing or not.
Still waint for the chance for someone to pay me after telling me to go away and go home.......

The 2014 All-Star Game lineups are out, and as always the fans made some terrible choices. The most glaring inclusion this year: Catcher Matt Wieters, who hasn't played a game in two months and is out for the season. But the next most glaring inclusion: Derek Jeter.
Yes, this is Jeter's farewell season, and even absent that he probably would have gotten in on name recognition alone. But per WAR, Jeter has been only the 20th best shortstop in baseball this year; even limiting it to just the American League, he ranks 11th. In a range of other offensive metrics, Jeter ranks at or near the bottom of that list, too, and he's on pace to have his worst full season ever.

That is what I was thinking. His health is the issue and I was thinking about releasing him because of it. BUT he does have the arm to do well for me. I think Myers is the odd man out for me here IMO, the "Myers type" of OF guy can be found and replaced much more easily that a "Cashner type" starting pitcher. Yeah I am thinking that as well.

Despite batting .271 (2010), .262 (’11) and .222 (’12) in his last three seasons, Johnny Damon still thinks he can "outhit at least half the league" and doesn't understand why nobody will give him a chance.

BigD, keep Grilli or drop him and pick up McGee?

I know the rays wont be winning many games but Grilli is taking up roster space right now and no good closers available

I know the rays wont be winning many games but Grilli is taking up roster space right now and no good closers available The Angels seem fine with Joe Smith as their closer right now. As such, it will take him falling apart for Grilli to get another shot. REMEMBER, Grilli WAS NOT a closer before last season, and, at 37, he is not likely to right that ship again. As such, I think swapping him for McGee would be a good move. While Maddon will not always go to him to close, his other numbers show him to be the best reliever the Rays have this year.
