what do you mean? They're going to keep in AAA? BullPen? DOH!!! Details,....., they are kind of important...... Milone has already been sent to AAA. They called up one of their own homegrown kids instead. I drafted Milone this year. One of these days he's going to be good!

I just don't know if it played a role, if any. And, that thing is Moneyball. For those familiar with how Oakland does business from and since that movie, they value OBP more than any other hitting stat. An ideal OBP is .400. As such, a .350 one would be respecable. For Cespedes, he is having trouble getting and staying over .300. As such, he is or very easily could have been deemed less valuable because of it. They will likely replace him with a speedster with a high OBP from the minors. As for Lester, he is just a rental, but could very easily be the thing that put them over the top, and instead of just getting to the post season, with hi, they may just go farther.

I guess they don't figure HRs and BIs into that. I sure do. 17/67 isn't Mickey Mantle or anything but it is pretty dog gone good.

It's just not what they value most. Different teams, different philosophies. Cespedes would be Earl Weavers favorite player......

It seems as though the Cardinals did not handle notifying their now traded players very well.
Allen Craig, an All-Star just a year ago, was sitting in a room off the clubhouse with teammates when he heard about the trade on the television. Joe Kelly read it first on Twitter. Other players heard about it first from the media or a website.
Craig could not leave the clubhouse without at least two hugs from Jon Jay, a part of the group that grew up to be 2011 World Series champs together. Tears welled in Kelly’s eyes as he talked about the shock — “I didn’t know any team wanted me at this point,” he joked — and Craig had trouble making eye contact.
He whispered, “No,” when a reporter approached him.
Outside the clubhouse, he received a hug from ace Adam Wainwright and walked down Petco Park’s concourse away from the only team he’s ever known as a pro.

Roy Halladay, having a little fun at the trade deadline -
My wife was on the phone all day yesterday. When she hung up I ask what was going on. Said she was try'n to trade me, very little interest.
— Roy Halladay (@royhalladay) August 1, 2014The only deal she had the other lady wouldn't include her lawn service! My wife tried to include the dog in the trade but still no go

What does every home run celebration need? Bubbles!! In case you haven't noticed over the past several weeks, the Dodgers now keep a bubble machine in their dugout. We saw Clayton Kershaw celebrate his no-hitter with bubbles in late June, but now L.A. players unleash the bubbles after someone hits a homer. This happened last night when Yasiel Puig came back to the dugout for a wild dance/bubble celebration after going yard.

Cool, this place is all mine!
And now for my patented first annual "what I think is gonne happen post deadline" thing-a-mummie:
AL West: Oakland just put themselves in position to win the division and get knocked out of the first round of the playoffs.
AL Central: Tigers, tigers, and tigers, oh my
AL East: Jays snatch division, Ballimer plays Angels in the one-gamer, lose, Showalter fired
NL West: Dahdgers win it by about a dozen games, Giants fade into fifth place for the wildcard behind Braves, Pirates, Cards and Mets, who are about to sweep them.
NL Central: Brewers hold off Cards run, St. Loo first WC team
NL East: Nationals win Div, Braves get 2nd WC but lose to Cards in one-gamer
Angels knock off the A's, Detroit skunks Jays in AL division series Dodgers clobber Cards, Nats edge Brewers in NL
Detroit beats Anaheim angels of LA for AL Pennant Dodgers sweep Nats for NL Flaggie thing
Detroit wins game seven at home, thanks a million Mike Metheny for not taking the all-star game seriously

Lemme see if I can guess a couple of your points of contention: You think Baltimore is more balanced than the Jays and will win the East You don't expect the Giants to slide that far and probably will get at least one wildcard and perhaps the Cardinals win the central

But they have been hurting for production from the OF for a long time now sooo... Really they should have done something to get an OF bat months ago...it was sooo obvious

They and the A's share that same mindset. And, if OBP was in fact not a factor here, then i'll just have to assume that the A's needed a big name to send to the Sox, and, that Cespedes just filled an OF void for them. So now, as long as Cespedes can help the Sox score 10 runs a night, the Sox could still win some games down the stretch.

So now, as long as Cespedes can help the Sox score 10 runs a night, the Sox could still win some games down the stretch. Sandy Alderson and the Mets ascribe to the moneyball theory in some ways, particularly with the high OBP focus. But this hasn't exactly worked for us. In fact, there were a lot of complaints that the emphasis on taking pitches and drawing walks actually messed up some of the younger guys' plate approaches. Specifically, because they took so much, they were often starting from an 0-1 or 0-2 hole and then waiving pitifully at balls out of the strike zone. So they fired the hitting coach (hudgens) and replaced him with Lamar Johnson, who immediately "clarified" the official stance as "take a pitch, unless it's YOUR pitch." It has definitely freed up some of the guys, especially Lucas Duda, who already had a decent OBP but has started to add to his slugging % as well. d'Arnaud has also started to hit better; however, the team as a whole has a very pedestrian .240 average and .313 team OBP.

I guess, such is life....
