LOL...Def one of those teams that would prob have to overpay market price for a FA, but strictly from a winning standpoint, they do have some really good young talent going on there

there are about 5 teams trying to win in 2018 Yup. There are a handful of “super teams” and the rest don’t really see a need to spend an extra $10m or $20m to be a potential wild card team. Strange way of thinking, but hard to deny what’s going on.

Their entire offseason was about JD Martinez...if they land him, mission accomplished if not, that would be a pretty bad offseason I figured he would be the first big Boras client they would sign in free agency(in at least a decade). But now I’m starting to wonder how wise it is to give a DH $100m+. They need a bat, but I don’t think he’s worth it. I wish they had been in on Jay Bruce, though.

I wouldnt mind the DH thing, in a weird way, you almost think his body staying fresh as a DH, he may have a better chance of holding up throughout the life of his contract, especially with his injury history

LoCain to the Giants. No word on money yet. But it’s believed to be a 3 year deal.

I figured the Giants would’ve been all over him in their quest to build the perfect 2013 roster

www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-jose-reyes-agree-one-year-deal-article-1.3779503In a move that will not take their fanbase’s focus off of payroll, the Mets have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with infielder Jose Reyes, pending a physical. A source said the deal is worth $2.5 million, including about $500,000 in bonuses. With Mets fans roaring about the Mets’ lack of spending on free agents, this surely will not be a move that quiets the critics. But the Mets source said that Reyes coming back is more insurance for second base and they will continue to look at free agent options for a starter. Neil Walker is still available as a free agent at second base, or the Mets — who GM Sandy Alderson said were looking at the situation “expansively" — could make a move for a third baseman and move Asdrubal Cabrera to second. While Mike Moustakas is still out there available as a third baseman, he is said to have at least one big, multi-year deal on the table. The Mets have also been in contact with former Reds and Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier, a more economical route.

"They'll never trade Yelich"
Yelich under control for five years, $58.25M. The return to the #Marlins will exceed what they received for Ozuna and Stanton, and possibly by quite a bit.

If you're a Miami fan and you still go to games after this gutting, then you deserve to be fleeced.
Sad part of all of this is the Marlins will STILL be better than the Phillies.

(and I get there is a malcontent factor here with Yelich but thats because they unloaded three other mainstays). But if you really believe this philosophy then in addition to not re-signing Hosmer, Cain or Moose the Royals need to trade Perez. Right?

I don't think the objective of a rebuild is to see how low you can get your payroll for a couple of years. You keep the cost controlled players and build around them. You just want the Royals to be gutted so you can get cheap tickets on stubhub after all the bandwagoners bail.

One aspect of a COMPLETE rebuild is also being so bad you get high draft picks for a couple of years....its the only way to get a guy like Bryant.
