Exactly. I don't know what was going on, but the Jackets were trying to pull something on Johnson. Maybe they wanted to resign him for cheap, but Rutherford saw through it. It could work out great for the Pens, he could be the mature steadying influence they need on defense.
Let's see, who was the last guy they brought on the team that was controversial and in bad with his current team? Oh, I remember:

I remember when he came to Pittsburgh. He was good, could have contributed to a push for the Cup, but Disco Dan didn't know how to use him. He also had a Pittsburgh story. He said he had just come to Pittsburgh, hadn't played a game yet and just went walking through the downtown area to see the city. He had dozens of people coming up to him and thanking him for coming to Pittsburgh. He was really surprised and impressed. |
