Sizemore's gotta be DFA'd as soon as Vic comes back, no? I mean the ONLY positive thing you can say about the guy is that he's actually stayed healthy somehow. What a steal y'all have with Holt... Pretty much. It was a nice story and all, but he's toast. I'm still skeptical about Holt's stat line. I think he's going to be a nice utility player for the Sox and maybe bat around .280/.340/.400-ish, but his .411 BABIP highly suggests he'll regress. He was a career .307/.372/.410 hitter in the minors. Hope I'm wrong.

I am still on the fence about Workman being in the rotation. I mean he strikes me as a guy who could do what he did last night (even after the rain delay) or be the next bad Dice-K. But kudos to him last night

Mike Napoli's third-inning RBI single was all the offense the Red Sox needed to come out on the positive end of a pitcher's duel for the first time this season. Boston was 0-18 when scoring fewer than three runs.

Red Sox first-rounder Michael Kopech agrees to sign 06.10.14 at 3:27 pm ET By Alex Speier
Michael Kopech, the hard-throwing right-hander whom the Red Sox selected with one of their two first-round picks (No. 33 overall), said by phone on Tuesday that he has reached an agreement to sign with the Red Sox and that he has informed the University of Arizona (which he’d accepted a scholarship to attend) of his decision. The agreement is not yet final, pending a physical, but Kopech is expected in Boston in the coming days to finalize his agreement. Kopech said that his agreement with the Sox was for “a little under” the slot recommendation of $1.678 million, meaning that the Red Sox will have some additional flexibility to spend on other draftees.
Kopech was 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA and two strikeouts an inning as a senior at Mt. Pleasant High in Texas. He regularly sat at 93-95 mph, topping out at 98-99.
“He’s got a hell of an arm. Special arm. I don’t know that I’ve ever scouted someone who’s had this kind of arm strength,” said one evaluator. “This guy can long toss from foul pole to foul pole before the game — without a problem, without a crow hop. It’s special. It’s a special, elite type of arm.”

Good talk last night about who we could get something good in return for if Ben decides to sell... Lester, Uehara, Lackey and Shitiz are probably the pieces that would fetch the best return... Might get something small for Drew, Pierzynski, Gomes and Capuano...
Gotta move Lackey, Uehara and Shitiz if the offer is right...

Think Milwaukee is a team to keep an eye on, not sure how their farm system is, but like CC a few years back, I could see that team being big time buyers this July...

In this market, I agree....But Price, CC and Lester to me have so many similarities...So many innings, looking for big money on the wrong side of 30 (Price will be 29).........Dont get me wrong, CC gave the Yankees a few rock solid years, but you see how that back end is starting to look........Just think if the Sox were blown away, it could be worth a look

I would love to see Cherington capitalize on the banked capital of last years title and get more chips for the future... Uehara, Lackey and Lester would all fetch something sexy.... Wrangle a corner outfielder of the future and some more young arms... I doubt Lucchino would allow it, though....

And you know they could get a blue chipper AND offload Shitiz's bloated contract... But he's a 10/5 guy, so he would probably veto any deal they could pull....

The way things are shaping up, there could be a lotta buyers, even rentals.......Who the sellers will be becomes the question...Think the only 2 teams that are a lock to be sellers right now are the Phillies and Dbacks......

Tough Call......For them to toss it in, they would really have to believe the Jays are built to last or the Yankees (not happening) or the O's (more likely) are capable of going on a 2 month tear That division really does keep hope alive

As you noted we allegedly have a lot of "kids" that are just about ready to help. Some will very soon I'd guess. This is the bridge year last year was supposed to be. Lester might not be an "Ace" but I'd rather just pay him than give that money/contract to another SP and take our chances. Koji, much as I love him, he'd kinda make sense to move if they don't turn it around by deadline time. Lester and Lackey I'd rather keep. SPs harder to find than anything really.

Get an outfielder for next year...

Always my take....I kick myself when I get caught up in payroll debates, cause truthfully I couldnt give a shit...... agreed but why put perfume on a pig i know the division is weak, but this team isnt championship calibre.....don't trade prospects to get a second wildcard fuck that improve if you can without trading any top prospect Not so sure. If a 2nd WC is attainable, you have as good a shot at the crown as anyone in baseball. Other sports, like the Knicks trying to get an 8 seed, different story

But can't expect too much more for a pure rental that you wouldn't be able to attach a QO offer once he is traded.

So now THIS is the answer now Boston? Really?
The Red Sox have signed free agent outfielder Andres Torres to a minor league deal, the club announced (h/t to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, via Twitter). Torres, 36, had remained unsigned all offseason and has yet to play in 2014.

Totally true. And sadly, if the Sox don't trade him (they should), they'll probably extend him so he comes out alright. "My arm is too valuable to pitch for only $500K."

Terriffic year?
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said Tuesday that the club remains hopeful of re-signing Jon Lester before he hits free agency this winter. "Our position hasn’t changed. We hope to have a conversation again about his contract (before Lester reaches free agency at season’s end)," Cherington said. "We’d love to find a way to keep him here." The comments come a few weeks after team president Larry Lucchino said that he expects to re-open contract negotiations with Lester at some point this season. Lester turned down a lowball four-year, $70-$80 million extension offer this spring and negotiations haven't resumed since. The lefty is having a terrific year, so the Red Sox will have to up their previous offer considerably in order to keep Lester from testing the open market.
