Probably should stay away from Lower Greenville Avenue for St. Patty's day activities though. It hasn't changed much since the last time I went down there back in the 80's. That's why there isn't more screeching than there is.

4 year extension for Jason Witten.
That's pretty surprising, I thought he'd be closer to his swan song.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a reduction in his 2017 cap hit as a result...

Sounds like the extension lowers his cap hit for this season. The man is already 34, so it was hard to see 4 more years of him suiting up after this upcoming season.

He was okay last year and the year before playing with different QBs. It's just that the ball is spread around a lot more when Romo isn't playing, and the emergence of Cole Beasley definitely took away some of his 3rd down targets. Romo would always look for him on 3rd down.

Actually, he was. Less reliant on his YPG (even though he was only a yard below his career average) and more reliant on his blocking which is still above average. And - his presence in the locker room is always stellar. He's a true leader. And - he's out there 16 games a year. Unlike some brittle bitches in the league.

According to Cowboys Wire, the Cowboys’ available cap space shrunk from just under $5 million to just under $2.5 million upon loan repayment. The loan stems from a provision in the two seasons after the new CBA went into effect that allowed teams to borrow $3 million in cap space against future salary cap charges in 2011 and then an additional $1.5 million in 2012. Those loans weren’t actual cash loans, it just allowed them to spend more money against the salary cap in those seasons that they then had to pay back five years later. As currently constituted, the Cowboys don’t have enough cap space to sign all their pick at the 2017 NFL Draft. However, any Tony Romo move they’d make would free up enough space to get all the rookies under contract. But it won’t leave much room for anything else. They will just restructure a few contracts offering up front money that will be spread across the life of the contract. It is a bad way of doing business but it is the NFL way for about a third of the teams

Once the Romo situation is resolved they will have another $5M. They will be able to address draft picks and other potential "cheap" FA's.

One year after being drafted in the 2nd round, Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith is able to lift his toes. Jesus fucking Christ. That kid better be damn good when he's finally healthy. One of my buddies from college is an orthopedic surgeon, I asked him what he thought of both Smith and Myles Jack. He said Jack shouldn't be a concern, his injuries weren't anything abnormal. He said he wouldn't touch Smith with a 10 foot pole because nerves either regenerate or they don't, and it's impossible to tell so it's a coin flip, but bad bad odds

That's a hell of a crap shoot to take... especially with a damn 2nd round pick! I love the kid. Love his attitude. Love everything about him except for the little issue around whether he can actually play or not. That's not where you gamble a 2nd round pick.

If the nerves don't regenerate, he's finished, and it's a coin flip for him to ever be able to play again. And if he can play, it's a coin flip that he'll be more than a shadow of his former self
