Bullet points from Kate... who has covered the court proceedings going back to the beginning;
- Hearing is over after 35 minutes. No decision issued yet; no clear timeline given.
- Judge Jacobs asked NFL reps: it was a 14-month investigation, it seems odd you can't wait a couple more months (to enforce suspension)?
- Judge Droney asked NFL reps to concede Elliott would suffer more harm now 8 games in & w/ playoffs nearing than at start of season.
- NFL lawyer: even if judges side with Elliott on irreparable harm, they must take into account Elliott doesn't satisfy likelihood of success
- Judges asked NFLPA what difference it would have made to have Elliott's accuser testify at arbitration hearing.
- Judges: what was sinister about Goodell meeting with 1 investigator & not the other? (Friel instead of Roberts).
- NFLPA contends the four independent advisors never knew investigator Kia Roberts' doubts about credibility if accuser.
- Judges asked if NFL investigators found credibility issues with accuser, how can they suspend Elliott on "credible evidence" standard?
- NFL responded that the credibility issues were about two of the five alleged incidents & Elliott was not punished for those.
- It obviously went very quickly. Small crowd gathering at courthouse steps waiting for Elliott to leave.
And in less time that the hearing took - injunction denied. Suspension in effect. Next 6 games... @ Falcons 4-4 Eagles 8-1 Chargers 3-5 Redskins 4-4 @ Giants 1-7 @ Raiders 4-5 Given that the precedent has been set and Goodell can suspend whoever he wants for what ever reason he wants Zeke should have just sat the 1st 6...He was never going to win the case. It blows this is how it is but...thats how it is. On the plus Jerrah is pissed with Goodell so his time may finally be almost up! That was how I felt when this whole thing started. I had the sense then that he and his lawyers thought it would take as long as it did for the Brady case to be “resolved” (I use that term very loosely). This (suspension at the end of the season) was always the risk they were taking. It was a bad decision. And - this thing between Jerry and Goodell. I don’t know how to feel about it. I despise Goodell. And reading the background stuff this has been brewing for awhile and the Zeke situation was just a final straw. I just don’t know if Jerry has the necessary support among the other owners to shitcan Goodell. |

I totally get wanting to clear your name and all that but it just doesnt work that way in the NFL anymore. Once Goodell says you're guilty, that's it... I see Kraft with Goodell now and then so I guess Kraft doesnt hate him as much as I want him too lol. But I do remember reading that there were some owners who didnt like how he handled "Deflategate" and now the ratings/ protests stuff...not to mention his mis handling of just about every major "scandal" Rice, Hardy, ...I'm cautiously optimistic he's not long for the job! |
