I'm guessing Niemi gets a nice door prize on his way out. But yeah... Mr. Nill has serious work to do. It appears that Jack Crawford isn't developing the way everyone had hoped he would at Cedar Park so there isn't a goalie sitting on the farm. He's played himself out of Cedar Park He's playing in Idaho these days He actually made it back to Texas late in the season. But he hasn't distinguished himself.

No shame here. Stars are back. Blues were just a better team. A team that looks like a serious contender to win it all. Guts and grit...
Congratulations Grue. I'm pulling for your heroes from here on.

My pain can be somewhat mitigated if the Preds would just go ahead and win tomorrow night...

Got to admit Nill has turned this train wreck around and pretty fast. Like to point out GK was always the Wings Achilles heel as well. Just saying. Light years ahead of my h/zeros. I thought that kid was going to be something special

Sorry you guys went down Otis.
Sadly, goaltending was clearly the undoing.
Not that I necessarily believe it would be a good idea for Dallas, nor do I think it will happen, but even Jimmy Howard coming there would be an upgrade.
Again, I doubt it, cause I don't think there is a lot of camaraderie between Lites, Nill, and the Red Wings front office. I for one have never had a problem with either man. The front office was mighty crowded here and they deserved the opportunity that they have received down there and have made very well with it.
Good luck next season.

The only issue I have with Muir's article is this - as I understand it, the Stars can buy out Lehtonen's contract after this season in a manner that will only cost them around $2M per season. So I actually see the distinct probability that Kari is gone. And the reality is I don't see how they can bring him back after that meltdown. The frustrating thing about him... the last two games of the playoffs are a microcosm of his career. And - they HAVE to get bigger. The Blues set up camp in our crease and were never moved. That has to change. You had 220 lb guys attacking 190 lb guys. 220 won. They are going to get younger. and the core is in place.

Your guys just couldn't move the Blues out of the way. Football is won in the trenches and Hockey is won in the slot. You control the slot on offense and defense and you'll win the game. Condolences, and I think my turn is coming. I figure I have about 6 more games to watch before the season is over for me.

They have to be careful as expansion draft issues in respect to goalies is always are a little different,. They have to have 2 keepers at draft time that have played X games in the NHL in the previous X seasons that are expansion draft eligible. There will be a lot of Keepers that will be moved as opposed to given away (Frederik Anderson off the top of my head) at the draft at the end of next season. The NHL have to move on it before the Raiders get there so I expect an announcement during the off season on Vegas. QC I'm not so sure with the downturn in the CDN dollar

The expansion draft thing is going to drive many decisions that normally would be formalities. There is no doubt that someone like Niemi would be a guy they would expose as opposed to just cutting bait and moving on. I plead ignorance... with the RFA's the Stars have in place (Nichushkin, Ritchie and Oleksiak are at the top of that list), what is the impact of the expansion draft on those guys and how the Stars address them? I think they look at Ritchie and the Big Rig as key pieces going forward but there is a little buzz starting that Val may just take the first Aeroflot flight back to the Motherland and play at home. Thoughts?

I think they look at Ritchie and the Big Rig as key pieces going forward but there is a little buzz starting that Val may just take the first Aeroflot flight back to the Motherland and play at home. Thoughts? From a fan site Teams can only lose one player for each expansion team that's added. So if there's one team, the team could lose one player. If two teams are added, they could lose two.Teams can protect three defensemen, seven forwards and one goalie OR any group of eight skaters, regardless of position, and one goalie. First-and-second-year professional players would be exempt, so you wouldn't need to use a protected spot on them. One major difference between this draft and the last expansion draft is that teams can only protect one goalie. As Craig Custance points out, what might that mean for a team like Pittsburgh with Marc-Andre Fleury in the NHL but a very highly touted future goaltender in Matt Murray as well? Tough decisions here. So if I'm a expansion team GM I'd start picking the 3rd year pros until a team offered me a deal to pass on theirs Have to be pretty tempting though. I'd take no high price players in the draft. After the draft to get to the cap floor I'd take on a couple big salaries (with 2 years or less on them) for another prospect or 2
