I won't go as far as some on Twitter and call it a "dirty hit". I defer to my hockey doyen Razor Reaugh. As he pointed out last night when it happened... 15 years ago Darius Kasparaitis does the same thing and while there would be some outrage, there would also be the segment of "unfortunate but good hockey play" debaters... with good justification. But the League has been making a point of getting crap like that out of the game. He didn't have to go that low with a hip check. That was my problem with the play... he had other options. It was cheap. And - as I noted on Twitter and Facebook - it made me think of how it would have been "addressed" 15 years ago as well. Derian Hatcher would have rearranged someone's chicklets.

Derian Hatcher would have rearranged someone's chicklets. funny I commented without even seeing this. It's debatable. I forget who it was that doled out a knee high hip check along the boards a season or so ago. But that was about ankle high. Keep in mind, 15 yrs. ago we didnt go around handing out suspensions because the recipient of a check is a superstar. I think Kulikov had him lined up and "attempted" a legitimate hip check. Now whether he made contact with TS at the exact spot does that make it suspendable? Pretty soon we will be having pro hockey played like John Travolta and the boy in the plastic bubble. Kulikov could have ended his career last night. Talk about being in the cross-hairs with your head down. If I am Seguin, I'm waking up happy its only my knee. Kulikov caught him between the hip and the knee......

clipping is the act of a "throwing the body across the back of the leg of an eligible receiver or charging or falling into the back of an opponent below the waist after approaching him from behind, provided the opponent is not a runner

Kulikov gets 4 games. Actually seems about right for a guy who was pretty much a non-entity before taking out our best player. No history... not a dirty guy per say...
Heard it put yesterday that it was a lazy play on his part. That might be a good analogy. Regardless - it puts my heroes in a tough spot. A couple more losses and guys like Horcoff and Cole might plan on being trade fodder.

A fair question... and you're probably right. You'd like to think the league would be consistent with that type of play but we all know better.

If it wasn't Seguin and the check still resulted in an injury to the player hit, I'd like think he'd still have gotten a game or two but just a fine is entirely possible.

The Stars have been fighting like mad to stay in the playoff race and I feel that the rule should be changed on suspensions. I think that the offender should have to sit out until the victim is able to lace them up again.

When it's all said and done, that sparkling 4-9 November record will be what does them in along with being very average at home. You can't dig that kind of hole that early in the season and expect to have a good conference wait for you to have a run. Main takeaway this season is that the kids came up from Cedar Park and Nill can make good assessments on who can play and who can't. So it won't be a complete loss. Just disappointing after getting a taste of the playoffs last season... I had high hopes.
