The Yankees placed infielders Martin Prado and Stephen Drew, as well as outfielder Brett Gardner on waivers, and all three have cleared, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman Tuesday. All three are now eligible to be traded during the month of August, though there is no indication the team is looking to move any of them. Isn't Gardner only making $10-12m per for four years. Find it odd that someone didn't put in a claim if only to block. Cherington asleep at the switch.

Given his salary and his roiding, Gardner has got to be the best trade chip the Yankee have right now.

With David Robertson a FA, and Betances obviously able to be a future closer, I really wonder if they sign him I hope they do, that set up role IMO has become more important than the Closers role But They let Wettland walk in a similiar situation after '96 and handed it to Mo

I absolutely think the Yankees re-sign Robertson. No brainer - it's worked this year, shouldn't be a bank breaker (as if there is such a thing for the Yankees). It'll be interesting if any grade A starters are put on waivers and make it through. Could see the Yankees doing a Gardner for a starter trade. They shouldn't but can't really explain why they'd put him on waivers in the first place.

I dont get the Gardner thing, unless they think his value is so high now, that someone would blow them away, but even for a starter, that offense would struggle even more without him With Robertson, one theory I heard is that a qualifying offer that would cost them $15 million for one season is possible...If he signs elswhere, they get a draft pick, but hed have a hard time walking from $15 mill

Im confused by the process The Yankees absolutely would not trade Gardner, so I really am not grasping the benefit of waivers The one and only reason to put him through waivers is to enable the team to trade him if they should so choose...
