for as much as cole makes, just spend that on lester. let cole stay in the sandbox with the sped teams. Cole is due $96 lester will be rolling in at least $50 more I would think pretty much this. None of this makes any sense to me. Somebody is going to have to collect money from the Red Sox next year and somebody is going to have to be brought in as a front of the rotation veteran arm. Why would they give up prospects and then pay Cole Hamels that kind of money when they could have just paid John Lester a little bit more and kept all of the prospects? None of it makes any sense. Lester is a proven commodity in Boston who knows can perform in the postseason. None of this makes any sense.

Cant Kill the Sox for it really....A lot of it is hindsight.......Guy was approaching 30, they rolled the dice and lost.....They banked on him not being quite as great as he has been this season, and probably thought they could find some middle ground at seasons end at around maybe $110??? (Just a guess) The thing people seem to keep missing with this trade to the A's I understand the thinking "A's cant sign him, its a perfect spot for the Sox, cause they could bring him back" Flipside of that.......The Sox just made the A's serious WS contendors, maybe favorites, and if Lester shines on that big stage again, with everyone watching, you and I know what that will do to his value......How many times do guys get more than maybe they should because of the bright lights in October.... Its why I keep saying that Lester can really get into some serious territory, of $140 - 170 million....He could set up a case to be paid as much as CC was, and some of these other guys Dont forget, Sherzer turned down $144 million, and Lester will have every right to ask for more than Scherzer

Lester is getting 6 maybe 7 years.
Losing 1 major prospect if it comes to that is worth it. To take a guy who is better and only on the hook for 4 years.
None of this major contracts for guys 30 and older have worked. The red sox are damn smart on this if you ask me. Not even factoring in they got a right handed middle of the order bat in addition.

Perhaps the sox realized paying pitchers with that many innings already under their belt a long contract has proven silly. For all the talk about your farm system, why don't they find some young guys that can pitch? Many other teams do it, who don't have the #1 ranked farm system of all time. The Indians are paying Corey Kluber half a mill this year to be lights out. Kluber emerging as a Cy Young Candidate

Having said that? I don't think that that's going to happen. I think it is a real long shot. & I don't think the fact that they chose Auckland to trade him to has the least bit to do with him being able or not being able to re sign there. I think it has to do with the fact that they got the young power hitting corner outfielder that they desperately desperately needed.

That's fair Rock, so the question is, if you have capable young arms, why bother giving out an overpriced contract that will probably prove worthless in the back half? Spend that money elsewhere.

Price/Kuroda Tonight
Kinsler, Miggy, Tori, Victor
Outside of those 4, that lineup is really not impressive

Can we reset the reset? Neither Dustin Pedrioia nor Jacoby Ellsbury are having a better season than Dr. Smooth himself, Michael Brantley. The Indians were able to sign him to a four year extension worth only $25 million... And the indians just beat the best rotation in baseball last night. So there's that too.

I think Atlanta should trade Freeman, Simmons and Justin Upton. I mean what the hell right? Why should they play for a playoff spot only eventually to lose to the Dodgers again? At least they can get back prospects and get ready for 2015. At least they can say to themselves "yeah we threw in the season, no sense of making the playoffs when the Dodgers are just too good"
"What Selig should do is go ditch the WC spots go back to 2 divisions in each league and the division winners make the playoffs. The 93 Giants would love that idea.

Pedro's pretty small. Let's just say Zimmer probably wouldn't be bum rushing CC if the situation was reversed.
