Tim Bogar took over as acting manager of the Texas Rangers once Ron Washington suddenly resigned from his post on Sept. 5. And it seems that his work thus far has impressed general manager Jon Daniels.
The Rangers lost five of their first six games under Bogar, but then rolled off a season-high seven consecutive wins. Overall, they are 8-6 under Bogar, which followed a 53-87 record under Washington.
Bogar, 47, has been the manager of the year in three different minor leagues, and in five different minor-league seasons, he sports a career 362-266 record. He has never been a full-time major-league manager. He has previously been on the coaching staffs of the Rays and Red Sox.

Big, BIG question coming up for the G Men. To me anyway. To me, in a case of a 1 game playoff/playin game, I think the Giants HAVE TO have Bumgarner pitch that game. He by far represents their best chance to win a game like that. However, as it stands now, he is set to pitch tomorrow, and then, the last game of the season. So, they will keep him on that schedule. And, if they can clinch anything in the next few days, one would think they would skip him that last start, putting him right in line to start that first game. But, if nothing is settled, he will then pitch that final game, leaving the playoff game for either Peavy or maybe Hudson.

Stupid football player tricks.
A day after Stephen Tulloch injured his knee mid-sack celebration, Lions coach Jim Caldwell announced that the linebacker would be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL, and miss the rest of the season.
DOH!
Shades of Bill Gramatica.........

What a full baseball world tour this would be.
It looks likely that the new D-Backs G.M will be named soon. And, that the leading candidate seems to be Dave Stewart.
And, if this comes to be, his will be a very different baseball journey indeed. Maybe there has been another, but to me, this will be the first case of a guy going from being a star player, to a player agent, and then on to a G.M of a team.

Tell the truth, lose your job. How sad.
It was on this date back in 1966, as the Yankees limped to a 70-89 last place finish, that with only 413 patrons in attendance to see New York's 4-1 loss to the White Sox, Red Barber's request for a camera to scan the empty stands is denied by the team's head of media relations. The veteran broadcaster will reportedly lose his job when he continues to tell his audience, "I don't know what the paid attendance is today, but whatever it is, it is the smallest crowd in the history of Yankee Stadium, and this crowd is the story, not the game."

At this point for the Giants it's Bungarner and Peavy and pray for rain, lol. Hudson has been the worst of the 5, but he also has the most experience. I wouldn't mind skipping him once and pitching Lincecum in his spot. Hudson has been awful.

Adam LaRoche said this weekend that he doesn't expect to re-sign with the Nationals over the winter. "If you had to ask me now, I would assume that I would have to move on, unfortunately," said the veteran first baseman, who is in the final year of a two-year, $24 million contract. Washington holds a $15 million option on LaRoche for 2015, but Ryan Zimmerman is probably going to have to move across the diamond for good and so the option on LaRoche likely won't be exercised.

Astros dynamo Jose Altuve notched multiple hits yesterday for the 10th time in the past 11 games to give him 220 hits on the season, which is the most by any second baseman since Hall of Famer Charlie Gehringer of the Tigers had 227 in 1936.
Here are the leaders since 1937:
JOSE ALTUVE 2014 220 Rod Carew 1974 218 Dustin Pedroia 2008 213 Dave Cash 1975 213 Craig Biggio 1998 210 Steve Sax 1986 210 In terms of the all-time leaders, Altuve currently ranks 11th and if he keeps up his season-long pace for the Astros’ final six games he’d finish with 228 hits to rank fifth all time. Here’s the current top five (with ties):
Rogers Hornsby 1922 250 Rogers Hornsby 1921 235 Nap Lajoie 1901 232 Rogers Hornsby 1929 229 Rogers Hornsby 1924 227 Charlie Gehringer 1936 227 Billy Herman 1935 227 Nap Lajoie 1910 227 Rogers Hornsby was a monster and that would be a pretty amazing list for Altuve to crack.

Earlier this month Royals manager Ned Yost talked about how disappointed he was that more fans weren’t coming to games with the team finally in contention, but here’s the thing: Kansas City has faded down the stretch, going 10-13 since his misguided comments, yet the fans kept coming to the ballpark.
In fact, yesterday the Royals finished the home portion of their season with an attendance of 1,956,482 for their highest total since 1991.
During the 22 years in between the Royals had a grand total of three winning seasons, with a high of 84 wins, and never made the playoffs. Right now they’re 84-70 and fighting for the playoff lives.
Considering all that Royals fans have been through for the past couple decades–some of it inflicted by Yost and his teams–I’d say their attendance was pretty impressive this season.

So, how will your t.v watching go tonight? If you are a big Jets or Bears fan, I could see choosing to watch Monday Night football tonight. If not, I would wonder why one would not watch tonights Dodger / Giants game instead?
So much more on the line in the baseball game, and, to say nothing of the fact that this is still one of the all time rivialies in sports, with still serious playoof implication on the line.
It's so big, that the idiots in charge of showing Dodger games in the L.A area finally got off their collective butts, and will finally show the game in the L.A area for free.
Better late than never, but, better still never late.......

Time for day baseball, as the Indians and Royals pick up a game from 3 weeks ago, with the Indians leading 4-2, and the Royals batting in the bottom of the 10th inning.

And so it goes. About 10 minutes of baseball, enough time for the Royals to score a run, and the suspended gamews ends 4-3 Indians.

After 13 years and 1,095 Minor League games, Guilder Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers recorded his first MLB hit last night.
I believe we were talking about him when they called him up?

My favorite kind of feel good story. And, to think of all the things that happened, and went wrong with the Rangers this year, that had to fall in place to even allow this to happen. And, good morning to you as well good sir.

Hooray parity!!!!
MLB won't have a 100-loss team in 2014 With the Texas Rangers winning their 63rd game Monday night, MLB won't have a 100-loss team in 2014, marking the first time this has happened since 2007.

A baseball fan, with a good knowledge of history, and way too much time on their hands.
Since it happened a half-century ago now, I'm guessing there are some folks that are not familiar with the collapse of the 1964 Phillies, otherwise known as "The Phold."
Long story short: The Phillies had a 6.5-game lead with 12 games to play, then lost 10 straight while the second-place Reds won nine straight and the third-place Cardinals won 10 of 11. St. Louis ended up winning the NL pennant by one game before beating the Yankees in the World Series. The Phillies, who had been in first place since mid July, finished the season tied for second with the Reds.
Sunday was the 50th anniversary of the start of the 10-game losing streak, and there is now a Twitter account (@epic64collapse) live-tweeting the Phillies collapse, with full inning-by-inning recaps and postgame quotes.
