Weird A-Rod homer info.
On this date in 2007, he hit his 500th homer. Then, exactly 3 years later to the day, he hits [HASH] 600.

More and more milestones. On this date, back in 1985, Tom Seaver gets his 300th win, and, in another game, Rod Carew gets his 3,000th hit.

The Cubs take the next step towards their future.
Again.
The Cubs will promote star prospect Javier Baez in time for tomorrow’s game against the Rockies at Coors Field, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports (Twitter link). Corresponding moves still need to be made to make room for the Puerto Rico native on both the Cubs’ 25- and 40-man rosters. Baez is a client of the Wasserman Media Group, as he just hired his new representation last week.
Baez is a consensus top-10 prospect in the game, as detailed in recent midseason minor league rankings by Baseball Prospectus (which puts him at [HASH]5), MLB.com ([HASH]6), Baseball America ([HASH]7) and ESPN’s Keith Law ([HASH]8). The 21-year-old impressed many with a big Spring Training performance but then got off to a slow start in his first couple of months at Triple-A. After 434 plate appearances for Iowa, however, Baez is hitting .260/.323/.510 with 23 home runs, so it seems his power swing is ready for the big league spotlight.
Originally drafted ninth overall in the 2011 draft, Baez has a .278/.336/.545 slash line over 1350 PA as a professional, cranking 76 homers and stealing 62 bases (of 79 attempts) over his four minor league seasons. The 2014 Baseball America Prospect Handbook says that Baez could stand to slow down some of the natural aggressiveness in his game, yet raved about his “special bat speed” and baseball instincts. The Handbook gave Baez’s power a 75 scouting grade (out of 80) and said “he profiles as an all-star-caliber, 30-homer infielder wherever he lands.”

They haven't had a good team since Joe Pepitone for those of you old enough to remember him.

Just some fantasy related ramblings, on 2 different topics.
First, it's now the time of the year that teams start to get both concerned and guarded about their young pitchers. Not that is really seems to do much good mind you, as there seemingly were more guys with more serious arm issues than ever before. But, still, teams are getting to the point of thinking about shutting down their young pitching studs, thinking of how their innings pitched numbers have very likely increased quite a bit from years past until now. The two main names I am hearing in regards to this are the Padres Jesse Hanh, and the Mets Jacob deGrom. As both of those teams are all but out of the playoff picture, look for both guys to be shut down either towards the end of this month, or, very early next month at the latest. If you have them, it is very likely that your league trading deadline is passed. If not, you may want to think about trading them to a less knowledgable or savy owner that may not know this shutdown is coming.
Second, I want to bring up the issue of stat splits. For you playing in daily change leagues, this issue should be long old hat standard. I state this the way I do, as there is no more important info in the life of a daily leaguer, as this is how you know who to sit or start on a particular day. The player that is causing me to pause and speak of this is the Mariners Kyle Seager. He has had for him what has amounted to a breakout season, as he is slashing .275/16/67/5. Well, taking a better look inside the numbers, I see Seager is not your usual split stat guy. What I mean, is that more often than not, hitters favor either a left or right handed pitcher. Well, not Seager, as he has hit lefties this year at .277 & righties .274. Where he splits go nuts is home and away. And, not the way one would think, considering his home park of Safco is a plus pitcher park.
Seager at home - .345 avg, .410 OBP, & .613 SLG
Away, it's only .211 avg, .276 OBP, & .347 SLG.
A,k,a A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
So, when setting your lineups daily, and if you want to make sure you will do the most to maximize your teams lineup output, you need to check on and heed these numbers, as they may end up tellign you something you didn't already know, and, giving you the power of info, and to use it to your best advantage.

Thanks for giving me a topic to go with Geneh, Looking at the Cubs history, and then going back trying to find a 5 year stretch when they were winning at least 85 games a year, I see you have to go all the way back to between 1927 - 1938 when the Cubs had good teams for more than just 1 or 2 years at a time. That is beyond sad to me......

About the Giants. Specifically, youngster Matt Duffy. I'm sorry, but I laugh when I see him on the field. He looks to be all of about 16, if that. And, his uni seems 1 size too big. If that were not bad enough, he not only looks 16, but I think he looks like what Tim Lincecum must have looked like at 16.

I'm not saying that the Mets pitchers' marching orders today were to not let Buster Posey beat them today, but, short of being in their pre-game meeting, a 0-1 and 4 walk day for Posey kind of leads me to that conclusion pretty quick.

Huge all LA series coming up for you BigD. A classic freeway series. 4 games, the first 2 at Chavez Ravine, the last 2 at the Big A. And, from the matchups, I am eyeing an even split for the Dodgers at worse. The first game is the best pitching matchup, with Garret Richards vs. Greinke. This one is a toss up, with Greinke pitching better of the 2 for the last few weeks. The 2nd game looks to be a solid W, as it does not matter who Kershaw faces right now IMO. I look for a Dodger loss in game 3, as Dan Haren as been as bad as Kershaw has been good. I also like the Dodgers to win the 4th and final game, as Ryu has been solid, and C.J Wilson has been putrid for about a month now.

Video footage of Babe Ruth is extremely rare, so much so that MLB's archives are believed to have less than one hour of film of the Sultan of Swat.
According to Phil Reisman of the Journal News, a clip of Ruth hitting a game-winning home run against the Washington Senators has surfaced. "This is the Holy Grail," said Mike Augustyni, who bought the footage sight unseen during an eBay auction last fall.
The clip is in black and white and is approximately 30 seconds long. There is no sound.
Taken from a ground-level seat at Yankee Stadium with a heavy 16-millimeter Kodak camera, the movie shows the Sultan of Swat standing in the batter's box against Firpo Marberry, a tough right-hander known for his menacing scowl. It's the bottom of the eighth and the Yanks are down 4-2. Two men are on base.
Ruth, who at this point in his storied career supposedly had downsized to a lighter 39-ounce bat, takes a mighty swing (weren't they all?) and smacks a high, arcing fly toward right field. Two fans in the foreground, a man in a stylish straw boater and a woman in a cloche hat, rise to their feet in excitement.
Foul ball.
Marberry winds up again, and this time chucks one under the Bambino's chin. Ruth stumbles and nearly falls down. The next pitch is a little outside but Ruth, no doubt angered by the previous dusting, extends his arms and pulverizes the ball. The ball instantly disappears against the gray wash of sky.
Augustyni digitized the footage but will not yet release the full clip for "proprietary reasons." After some detective work using player numbers, the buildings located outside Yankee Stadium, and a shot of the Graf zeppelin flying over Manhattan, it was determined the game in the film was played on Aug. 29, 1929. Ruth hit the homer in the first game of a doubleheader. Here's the box score.
Ruth was 34 years old in 1929 and the homer in the video was the 507th of his career. He led the league with 46 home runs that year.
Needless to say, this is really, really cool. I hope to see the full video one day.

The only reason Hudson got pulled was due to his pitch count, and, as the Giants bats did not come alive and take the lead until after he had left.

Lol ...and I thought the first or best addition would come in the form of Jim Johnson. After not paying hardly anyone big bucks, they give him $ 10 mil, for about 1/2 a seasons work. Now, they have to pay him to stay home. Moneyball indeed.....

Braves should have ponied up the cash and kept Hudson. Big mistake to let him go. This whole season has been a big fat mistake.
