Wow the Pirates are low balling the hell out of Gerit Cole.... that can't be good for their chances of signing him long term. He would be a great fit with the Red Sox. I hope he is on their radar.

He's under team control until 2019. He's not arbitration eligible until 2017. They're not low balling him in anyway. He's due league minimum for this season.

Next year, they'll have to worry about what they're doing with their franchise player who is only due 27 million the next 2 seasons.

Being under team control is a bitch.

I think that it's fair to presume that they have approached him on that front. His comments are of the "so pay me even though i'm not extending" variety, IMO. And fuck that.

Trout got paid after his second full season. Exactly he was making league minimum his first 2 full seasons. How much did he make his 3rd full season? 1 million dollars. 2012 and 2013 he made league minimum. 3rd full season he made 1 million, 4th season his first year of arbitration he made 6 million.

I keep looking for a related story, that he has since fired his agent. As I can't, maybe he just flat offed him?
Rangers signed INF/OF Ian Desmond to a one-year, $8 million contract.
That is $7.8 million less than the one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer that Desmond received (and rejected) from the Nationals at the end of the 2015 season.

What do you think the Mets are doing with their guys?

It's what everyone does. It's the flipside of "well the other team offered him more money when he became a free agent, so he left". It's a business. Doesn't mean that you have to be cocks to everyone, but satisfying your minimum financial requirements of a contract isn't being a cock.

And they're going to squeeze as much out of them as they want for peanuts. Until eventually they'll have to trade one....most likely Harvey.

Wow, the Mets are sitting pretty with that rotation. Jeter H. Syndegaard only has 0.149 years of service on top of that. And Harvey has 2 more years of arbitration. We maybe talking about a mini dynasty with that staff.

Andrew Mccutchen had to wait to get paid too. He was making $ 422K a year his first couple of years. He had to go through the same walk of life and he still got low balled into a 6 year 51 million dollar deal. Cole should shut the fuck up.
