What an entertaining game!
The gawdamned f#!&ing Trojans win the battle between two freshmen, a true frosh QB for the Longhorns in Sam Ehlinger and a kicker for USC who had never successfully kicked a field goal in his collegiate career.
Great defensive battle with two scoring bursts (one at the end of the first half and then near the end of regulation). Otherwise there was but one field goal in the third quarter by Texas.
Ehlinger was the better "Sam" in this game over the much more heralded Darnold of USC. Sure he showed some freshman jitters early but I may never forget him rushing for that first down when USC twisted him into a tornado going out of bounds. Then he gets up like nothing happened! That receiver Collin Johnson is a bad mofo. And the defense for Tewxas was vastly improved. Malik Jefferson delivered one slobberknocker after another at LB and DeShon Elliott made two awesome picks. What a ballhawk.
All that excitement only to see the ball tomahawked out of Ehlinger's grasp just as he was about down to the one yard line in double OT.
Then to see the 'Horns literally stonewall USC into attempting the 41 yard FG that decided it.
Sometimes the "most deserving " team does not win. Maybe the "best" team won, but they won it by the hair on their chinny chin chin.

The Longhorns defensive line was more than a match for the Trojan O-line... and I would make the assumption that Alabama, Oklahoma and Clemson have better (and as big if not bigger) defensive lines than Texas. USC running game was stuffed. Add to that the fact that Trojans receivers can't hold on to passes delivered perfectly and this offense will leave the defense left out to dry against superior QB's. Penn State has a legitimate argument that they should be #4.

I agree with you there Otis.
Texas has to have USC concerned because they were bringing it big time almost all game long to that over rated o-line.
Way too many dropped passes as you also state. PSU looks solid. It will be entertaining next week when they go to Iowa City.

PSU's "strength of schedule" has had no strength yet.
Your points are sound, and going into Iowa City will provide a much truer test for the Nittany Lions. As you state, PSU will have a hard time putting up points on the 'Hawks with that O-line. When Iowa is on offense they are likely to get good push vs PSU's D-line. The secondary is a strength for PSU, but it may not a big factor for them except for bringing down Iowa RBs after big gains.

Great kid, too. I've looked like a homer fanboy for a couple years as he put up moderate stats behind an awful OL. Now he has merely an average OL and the rest of the planet now sounds like me. he’s the exact opposite of Crapenberg in every way

He should. And hopefully he’s getting good advice to stay. The game film doesn’t lie. Right now I’d draft Rosen before I’d draft Sam.

Well, now I have no team left. Love(d) Oklahoma and Michigan. Great game turned in by Iowa State. As for Michigan, I think Jim Harbaugh, in his third year, is a huge bust as Wolverines coach. How can he expect to compete for the National Championship if he can't get his team to muster up even enough offense, at home, to score only 10 points against a Spartan team coming off a 3-9 season? You can't win, let alone compete for a National Championship when you can't take care of business in your own backyard or in "border skirmishes" with that "team down south".

#2 has been the Rank of Doom this season. Focus on Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. that happened during one of the matt Ryan years at BC, we rose to #2 for one week because the #2 team had lost something like 7 straight weeks. Crazy shit. Last weekend flipped everything upside down.
