Anyone here plan on watching a single pitch of the WBC? I will, for sure. Those games are better than normal preseason baseball and I don't watch NHL or NBA.

Anyone here plan on watching a single pitch of the WBC? Baseball fans will watch the USA lose again. It would be nice if the USA actually cared about winning as much as everyone else does. Would love to see Kershaw & Scherzer etc... pitching for the US instead of the 2nd rate guys they usually get.

Most of the guys on Team USA, Team DR, and Team Venezuela, are only participating to avoid the daily grind of spring training. The only teams that truly want to win/brings the most passion, are team Japan and Team South Korea. If the American players brought the same passion to the tournament as the Asian players, a team from the Americas would win it every time.

Now if the USA was a favorite, ratings would be through the roof. When was the last time you heard people talk about women's soccer? Remember how high the ratings were when they won?

The guys from DR, Puerto Rico and Venezuela take it VERY seriously. The Asian countries, as well. Only the US treats it as a chore.

Baseball is much more popular in several other countries than it is in this day and age in America.

I just got MLB TV and its on there, so I'll take a look here or there... Maybe see some "Caracas Tigers"...Miggy, V Mart, Frankie Rodriguez, King Felix (the outlier...).

Baseball is much more popular in several other countries than it is in this day and age in America. It's still #2 in the USA in revenues. Nobody is touching the NFL, but MLB is second. It has DOUBLE the revenues of the NBA. Rumors of MLB's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

It has double the revenues because they play double the amount of games in stadiums twice the size. Its easily the 3rd most popular sport in the country and dropping further every year.

Based on what? Can you back that up with anything? MLB averaged 30,000+ fans for 2425 games last year and World Series ratings were through the roof. I think they will be OK.

Premium basketball games crush premium baseball games in terms of TV ratings. The NBA Finals has tea-bagged the World Series about 85% of the time for the past 15 or so years. And then just take a look at any of these Q ratings in terms of popularity of athletes. I don't have the exact figures in front of me but I would be shocked if of the top 20 most popular athletes in this country that a singular baseball player was among them. Soccer players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are more popular in this country then Mike Trout or Clayton Kershaw.

And, yet, game 7 of the World Series last year was the 2nd most watched TV event of 2016. I do agree on the marketing side. Once Jeter and Papi retired, there really wasn't any recognizable face out there like a Lebron James. Trout really SHOULD be that guy, but he isn't.

I freely admit that if every game has the drama the Cubs in game 7 of the World Series that goes to Extra Innings? Then baseball's ratings would surpass basketballs.

2 reasons why the USA may not win....
1. their best players don't play, 2. its single elimination. Baseball isn't meant to be a single elimination sport..... 3. the better US players don't play over the winter and therefore, are not baseball ready in early march.
if you had 7 game series and the USA had a in baseball shape rotation of Kershaw, Scherzer, Sale, & Bumgarner....(or Kluber, or Lester, or Syndergaard, or Verlander..etc) and your lineup includes guys like Trout, Bryant, Rizzo, Seager etc etc etc.....
Its going to be tough for anyone to compete with that.

Team USA plays the DR tomorrow at 6:30EST. The lineup that then DR is rolling out is absurd!
SS-Jose Reyes 3B-Manny Machado 2B-Robinson Cano DH-Adrian Beltre LF-Jose Bautista 1B-Carlos Santana RF-Nelson Cruz CF-Starling Marte/Gregory Polanco C-Welington Castillo
I wish the US cared that much!

Given the right pitching, that's a team that could win a World Series! I think they would have a shot! It's too bad the US treats it like a chore. The starting OF for the US should be Trout, Harper, Betts(none of whom are on the team). Josh Donaldson and Anthony Rizzo aren't on the team, either. The pitching is even worse. Instead of Kershaw, Scherzer, Arrieta, Lester, Sale & others, the "aces" are Archer and Stroman. Pretty weak.

How bout a lineup of:
CF Mike Trout 1B Joey Votto 3B Kris Bryant DH Anthony Rizzo SS Manny Machado LF Ryan Braun 2B Corey Seager RF Mookie Betts C Buster Posey
might suffer a little defensively moving seager to 2B and Machado to SS(but you can have Addison Russell on the bench for defense at both positions)......but with my rotation of Kershaw, Sale, Scherzer, Arietta and Lester....or Syndergaard..or Bumgarner...or Verlander..or Kluber.etc....I think USA will be OK.
