OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens traded defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan and a third-round compensatory pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for their third-round pick, it was announced Tuesday. The Ravens will move up 25 spots in the third round -- from No. 99 to No. 74 overall -- in exchange for a starting defensive tackle who likely was not going to get re-signed after this season. Baltimore now has four of the first 78 picks in this year's draft. Jernigan, a second-round pick in 2014, was Baltimore's best interior pass-rusher, but his production -- as well as his snaps -- declined in the second half of last season. He had five sacks in his first nine games and none in the final seven weeks. I really liked him coming out. He can pressure from the interior but he hasn't been consistent enough. Still young. The difference in draft spots isn't that significant when you add in Jernigan as this classes grades are all over the place from 25 to 125. For the Ravens it's a bit of a surprise to let go of a player a season before free agency as they love compensatory picks more than any other organization. Of course the pick wouldn't have been till the third day of the 2019 draft

Allen is more of a rotational role player. Not much of a pass rusher. Good against the run. But he does play a lot of snaps. I'm hesitantly excited about the Jernigan pick up. He's got some nasty highlights. In Baltimore's scheme the linemen take on the blockers so the linebackers can make the play that is not the Schwartz way. I think you can move from hesitantly excited to optimisticly

Thanks..looks like he will be the Chiefs replacement for Poe, at a cheaper rate.. nice get. from a NFL.com article The swap of an up-and-down Dontari Poe for a run-stuffing Bennie Logan could be viewed as one of the most underrated moves come fall.

and then another NFL.com writer posted this 27. LeGarrette Blount agrees to terms with EaglesReleasing Matthews and signing Blount Cap savings just under 3 million great between the tackles runner punisher in the "beast mode" mode Only AP is less of a factor in the running game out of the backfield

Overall I am happy with the draft haul. I know there are going to be Eagles fans who bitch that we didn't get a three-down back, or an offensive lineman, etc. But I maintain that Philadelphia had far too many holes to fill with a single draft. And I am not unhappy with any of these selections. It's also important to remember that this is just one season after trading a boatload of picks to get Carson Wentz. So the fact that the Eagles had 8 picks within the first six rounds was an impressive feat within itself. Got a pretty good 2 down back cheap today

Got a pretty good 2 down back cheap today The backfield finally looks complete. Blount and Sproles should compliment each other well. I don't fully understand the compensatory pick tender but it sounds like Philly won't lose a pick. No they don't but they may not get one. They have a formula for it and there are 32 possible compensatory picks. The team has to have had more UFA's lost than signed usually they are ones that are signed before April but the Pats had a seldom used tender on Blount that kept him as one of those compensatory FA's Basically add the FA's the team signed from other teams that contract had expired (ie not released) to the list of players they lost (again these would be March signings) If it is a positive number they may be entitled to a compensatory pick if it's negative they just won't be eligible for one of the 32 extra picks There is another formula for which round if eligible the picks would be. The Ravens have worked this for years constantly getting extra picks which kept their depth at the bottom, of the roster top notch

Bruce Arians on Carson Wentz: I know some Iggles fans (like Beck) who are waiting to "see it" from Wentz. But I agree with Arians. You guys got the best between him and Goff and I don't think it's close. I believe he's going to be really, really good. And he's going to torment my heroes for a while.

Lots of square pegs in round holes and a pretty bad roster of playmakers. He'll be just fine

Eagles cut DE Marcus Smith. Smith was the Eagles 2014 first round pick. He finished his three-year career in Philadelphia with 12 tackles and 4 sacks. He never started a game. IOW he was a giant bust and I'm happy he's gone. They should have known he wasn't any good as he wasn't DeMarcus, LaMarcus, or LeMarcus.

There's a lot of hype coming out of Philly on two UDFA WRs. 2nd year WR Marcus Johnson has a strong physical skill set. The former Texas Longhorn measures in at 6'1 204lbs with a 4.37 40 time and a 37 inch vertical. His improved play helped ease the Eagles decision to release Dorial Green-Beckham. Former Houston Cougar QB Greg Ward Jr has converted to WR. And has surpassed expectations. The Eagles are high on him as well. Either of these two UDFAs could make the team either by: A. Stealing a roster spot from 5th round pick Shelton Gibson. Gibson has not performed well since being drafted. He has a bad case of drops and has shown no signs of improving. There's a strong chance that Gibson will not make the Eagles roster. B. If the Eagles opt to keep 6 WRs. He is a quality kid from all accounts according to my buddies in the Houston area. One of those guys you root for to succeed. Glad to hear his transition is going well.

He'll be just fine from NFL.com EACT: Carson Wentz is the best quarterback in the NFC East.I didn't need to see him throw for four touchdowns in Sunday's 34-7 blowout of the Cardinals. I was singing Wentz's praises last week. I picked Philadelphia to win the NFC East in the preseason. And it's happening.Wentz, who sports a shiny 10:3 TD-to-INT ratio, is the best quarterback in the division this year. And he'll have a better career than Dak Prescott. Come at me, Cowboys fans.▹ Schein: Wentz best NFC East QB
I agree and this isn't meant as an indictment of Dak I just think long range Wentz will prove to be the best QB out of that draft. Now as for the Pokes and Eagles battling for East supremacy into and during the 20's I can totally see it -SD chatter

2 game lead already The reports I've been seeing out of Philly have been much more bullish than useful. I think Wentz's personality channels the kind of unfettered optimism that is generally associated with overtly religious players, like Tim Tebow and Kurt Warner. Last year multiple Eagles veterans claimed it was the most spiritual team they have been on. It's apparently resonated well with the players and they all credited Wentz with the culture change. I believe that he brings an identity and a positive energy to the team. It's contagious. It's good for the locker room and it's good for what imo is generally a pessimistic fan base. I know some Iggles fans (like Beck) who are waiting to "see it" from Wentz. But I agree with Arians. You guys got the best between him and Goff and I don't think it's close. Cleveland is 1-22 since trading away that pick. another one of those (offensive or defensive) geniuses who when they become a HC the other side of the ball becomes the strength of the team

Also hoping the Giants and Redskins have no backup plan for when they lose Eli and Cousins (preferably sooner than later). Two teams fighting for the same division title is competition enough.
