My Dad had Alzheimer's...can't listen to Glen's song yet. My siblings and I still test ourselves constants...remembering where we parked the car, what we ate last weekend, who we talked to in church, etc. Same reason I can't go see American Sniper. Read the book and it is fantastic...same with Lone Survivor...but some things are still a little too raw.... Things like this are really tough. I lost my dad in 1978 when I was not quite 21. I was in his business, which was destroyed because it was based on contract business, which was yanked when he lay dying of cancer at 52. God speed for you and your family. Good luck. Thanks Tiger...Dad passed in the 90's so it isn't that raw and he was in his 60's when first diagnosed...rough living thru that ....American Sniper is an issue as I was in Vietnam and still having issues with that. Funny part is some things don't bother me. Like the movie Platoon, which included a battalion in my division (bn was one of the 27th Wolfhounds and the Div was 25th Infantry) and I enjoyed it...but Apocalypse Now was just a downer for me

Alright. Royal Blood is officially my favorite current band. Excuse me, DUO. Decided to read up a little and thought no way, they have to have help. Nope. They are a fucking Bass and Drums. That's all, folks.

Vietnam was the worst war ever. I lucked out and just missed the draft. My good friend and business partner Bill is a Purple Heart and put up the boldest front for the first nearly twenty years that I knew him. Would have never known that he was affected by the war at all. Finally, cracks started to show in the late 1980's. I was not his partner at that time (we had a decent business later) but I ran a chain of waterbed stores that he built and owned here in the late seventies. He could not come into work once a week or so at first, then would be lucky to make it in once a week. I watched him disintegrate and helped him liquidate his business. I talked to him and his wife and finally got him to the VA. He had full blown PTSD and was a mess for ten years plus. He is doing better these days (thank God). The worst thing he ever shared with me was the return to the USA when Nixon finally pulled the plug on the whole sordid mess. He was spit upon and verbally berated in San Francisco along with all the other soldiers. Like it was their fault. Stay strong my friend.

Zappa
was a great guitar player. Pretty funny dude too! He and Dweezil were on a talk show once, and Dweezil had recently changed his first name, to Eric or something like that. Host: "Why did you change your name?" Dweezil: "I got tired of kids calling me Dweezil the Weasel". Frank: "Now they call him Eric the Weasel."

This one by F.Z. is simply a billboard for his great guitar playing ability.
Of all places, "The Mike Douglas Show". 1976. Mike had that old variety show on CBS in the 60's and 70's and did not seem very hip but he was constantly bringing people like Zappa on the show and I loved it.

An aside here: Used to love the Mike Douglas show (Steve Allen at the same time). Came on during the day when I watched it. One time (and my memory on this is admittedly sketchy), I think Robert Blake was the guest, who had recently quit smoking (carried an unlit cig around to quench the manual habit). Mike D sat down, either with a lit cigarette, or lit one, and Robert B slapped the cigarette out of his hand, and my mind's eye can still see that cigarette flying off, stage right. Had never seen a guest upstage a host to that point.

Damn....I could drink a case of beer in one night and still wouldn't dent that lake....looks like it is about 30 feet down from normal...but I did try. Did you know that there are backroads around I-5 where you can lose the CHP? Of course I think the rental will need new shocks..... It always looks like that this time of year. And yes, if you're returning to Sac via I-5, be sure to watch your speed very carefully when you come down the hill after the Bridge Bay exit. They watch that area like, well like CHP looking for easy pickins. Saw 4 between the Bridge Bay exit and Ref Bluff....sneaky little bastards, too.
