Was tentative leading up to it, wondering what had reduced them to "county fairs". Still don't know the answer to that, because they were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

Flipping the channels on the radio in the car today, happened across a tune that caught me right away. Thought I had landed on some non-mainstream adult contemporary station, and that this was some fine talent toiling in near obsurity. Almost a Kate Bush-type soulful folk. Put up the Soundhound to see who it was, and was taken completely aback:

I concur. To be charitable - uh... they sucked. Definitely not the act I saw 25 years before tear it up opening for Ted Nugent.

If you get the chance - catch the "Miracles Out Of Nowhere" documentary on them. Really, really good. I still love "Masque"... and will listen to it at the drop of a hat.

GFR, ok, I'll buy that you could "put them up with the Stones". But GnR? Imploded too quickly, IMO, to be included in any conversation with the Stones. And I'm not even a "Stones guy". Didn't really gain a proper appreciation for what they'd done until well into my 30's, and what they've done is nothing short of amazing, no matter how you cut it. I will say that Appetite for Destruction is one of the greatest albums ever, but I refuse to put the band itself in the list of all time greats.

I disagree...it is what you do with the time you have, and GnR did great. Like the old saying...it isn't the amount of lead in the pencil....it's more the way you sign your name....

I can't imagine them as ridiculous 60/70-somethings like the Stones are touring around making crap forgettable music just for the sake to make millions off the nostalgia crowd. As for Slash, he was never a songwriter anyway. Why does Snakepit sound nothing like Velvet Revolver? Because Slash contributed zero to the songwriting - aside from sticking his name on the credits in order to soak up some publishing dollars. All he does is play lead, and at this point most of his solos all sound like you've heard them from him before. Clearly, Izzy Stradlin was the genius behind the monster that was GnR.
