Report: Jared Cook in Green Bay, set to sign with Packers
Posted by Darin Gantt on March 28, 2016, 8:52 AM EDT Jared Cook, Rashad Johnson AP The Packers under General Manager Ted Thompson are known for their patient approach to free agency, with patient a euphemism for what seems like open disdain.
But they may be close to making their annual move.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, former Rams tight end Jared Cook is in Green Bay and is set to sign.
The Packers brought Cook in for a visit two weeks ago, kicking the tires on a guy who was once a high-profile free agent signing (getting a five-year, $35 million deal from the Rams). But his production dipped, and the Rams cut him in February before the move to Los Angeles.
Since he was released, he wouldn’t count against the Packers in the compensatory pick formula, which is part of the way they do business. And he’s shown in the past he can be a weapon, and would give them someone to pair with Richard Rodgers as targets for Aaron Rodgers.

This is good news! We desperately need help at the TE position and think it would be a mistake to take the time to draft and develop another player. signing Cook would be an immediate upgrade.
I believe his numbers nose dived because he had NO quality QB or Offense with the Rams. Rodgers will make this guy an instant star!

Will Jared Cook be the reliable TE Green Bay has been missing?I say no but he is an upgrade at the position and with a bad year for TE's in the draft It makes sense

Good article Swamp Dragon and I agree with it. Cook IS an upgrade but he's no Gronkowski. He will certainly make an immediate impact and that's what I was hoping for.

There ya go, got your guy. Yes we did! Woo Hoo! I looked at some of his highlight videos and he reminds me of Finley. I think Cook will be a good addition to our offense. MUCH quicker than Rodgers. What about the Jets and Fitzgerald? Any new offers on the table?

Packers showing interest in Ronnie Hillman from Denver. Not sure why with Starks signed and lacy getting in better shape...

Fitzpatrick and the jets are still at a stand still....which I like. No need to pay him big money.

I don't understand what he did to get that much per year. not only did he cost the Jets the season in the final game, he wasn't all that impressive anyway & his track record career wise isn't worthy of that. what the Jets are offering is max what I would give him. you see Denver is desperate for a QB and STILL won't offer him more than the Jets

Also, if Green Bay did make a move for Hillman he would be 3rd on the depth chart. Don't think he would want that.

Rob Demovsky tweeted out that list as well as put it in his article on ESPN so I'd trust the name.
as far as Ronnie Hillman with Green Bay is concerned, it doesn't make sense. why re-sign Starks if they're just going to bring in Hillman? He won't want to be a #3 back and that's where he would fit in this Packers' offense. waste of time while they could be spending their time going after maybe a S that's still available like Reggie Nelson. or maybe go after a NT like Knighton or Henry Melton. or shock everybody and sign Wisniewski at C. really though the only player I can see GB going after is Knighton at NT to replace BJ Raji. but I don't expect GB to dive into FA anymore until after the draft, if at all.
