Thread reminds me of when my wife and I were dating. Ranger's game was one of our date nights...back then it was $2/parking, $2 each for bleacher seats. we would sit with a group from the GM plant and they would watch my wife while I went for eats or beer. This was back when they still played in the old AAA stadium in Arlington. Great times. Always been a Rangers fan The place was a dump... but it was our dump and we loved it. Saw some wretched baseball there... a whole lot of wretched baseball. Made opening day in 1978 (50 will remember this - Sparky Lyle mentioned it in "The Bronx Zoo) when the Yankees new free agent (Goose Gossage) met the Rangers new free agent (Richie Zisk) and Zisk hit a line drive shot to the left center bleachers that left a dent about 6 inches wide in the back of a seat. Saw Fergie Jenkins start against the Royals... and last 2/3 of an inning (score after one - 10-0 and I proceeded to get excessively drunk)... saw Bo Jackson hit a line drive square into Nolan Ryan's teeth with the Chicken dancing in the aisle next to me... Good times.

Do you guys still feel the Rangers are dead after acquiring Cole Hamels?

I know Pickles feels like the Phillies got fucked on this deal... so I'll give him a shred of hope. I've been to Frisco twice this year. Went down the first time looking forward to seeing Gallo and Alfaro. Hamilton was rehabbing to that was a bonus. In both games though, my grandsons and I left saying the same thing...
Nick Williams is a badass.
First game - 2 HR's, a double and two plays in the outfield that had us looking at each other saying "Shit! You see that???" Second game, a couple more HR's and another stellar outfield play.
Never know with kids... but I REALLY like Nick Williams.

Do you guys still feel the Rangers are dead after acquiring Cole Hamels? I'd say with a contract till the end of the decade this wasn't about the now, like the Price Jays trade. Cole and Yu or Yu and Cole as a 1-2 is pretty sweet if Yu recovers well from Tommy John surgery, imagine if Tommy John got royalties everytime someone mentioned the surgery He'd be one rich motherfucker

There is genuine hope for this staff going forward. Still need. Right-handed batt balance the lineup but they actually have some room to do that after getting out from under Harrison's contract. Which is good because we're stuck with those damn contracts for Andrus and Choo.

I hate to overhype a kid in Double A... but what I saw of the kid - Nick Williams will play in the bigs and soon. And he can damn sure play the outfield - has speed, range and glove. Only question is his adjusting to MLB pitching.

Rangers back to .500
And - in a move that should improve the team by subtraction, the Rangers ship Leonys Martin and his utterly useless bat to Round Rock. Dude is arbitration-eligible next season. Right now, there is no way in hell he gets qualified.

Guess it makes the race interesting but the trade deadline kinda boring, maybe they should move them back a couple weeks each. Trade and Waiver deadline that is. Jays have traded 14 pitchers this season, maybe I should see if they need an arm at the Nat

Sole possession of the 2nd WC.
And - Holland is back, Perez is back, there is an actual major league bullpen in place...
If this team makes the post season then Jeff Bannister should be a shoo in for AL Manager of the year. This is unreal.

Derek Holland's line... 9 Innings 113 pitches 0 Runs 4 hits 11 k's 7 left on base
I am in awe of this season. They are three games behind acoustic and 2 games up if or the second wildcard.
Fucking amazing.

On August 1, this team was 50-53 and 8 games out of first... and 4 games out of a WC berth.
Keep chopping wood boys. 18 games left

Well - after that, I am reminded of what Wash would say.
That's how baseball go.
That was a serious kick in the nuts.
