Like Bad News Bears awful I expected the bats to struggle because they always do against "no name" pitchers but my gawd the defense was just awful Joe Kelly to the rescue!

Like Bad News Bears awful I expected the bats to struggle because they always do against "no name" pitchers but my gawd the defense was just awful Joe Kelly to the rescue! How about Josh Hamilton to the rescue? Beltre out two weeks. Lots of chatter about bringing up Gallo for a stint to get a taste of the bigs. Hope not. Meanwhile... this jumped out at me this morning...
| April | May | Record | 7-14 | 19/11 | ERA | 4.18 | 4.25 | Runs per game | 3.57 | 5.45 | Batting Avg. | .210 | .273 | Slugging pct. | .318 | .433 |
The bullpen is still scary as hell... although Tolleson has settled down the closer role. But Prince has been a beast the last few weeks... and Moreland coming back has helped a ton. I still have low expectations for Hamilton. And - now we will see how they handle Beltre bring gone. Still - after that God-awful April, there is actually genuine hope down here.

Not sure who deserves more blame, Farrell or the ones who put the team together...or both

True enough but the Sox have a former SS/3B playing LF, a 2B playing CF and either a guy that is always hurt(Vic) or just not ready (Castillo) in RF and a bunch of 4's and 5s in the rotation.. And to make it worse they just extended one of those #4s like he was a #1...Even Panda, pretty average player who shines in play offs but paid like a superstar,,, wasnt hard to see this coming really Farrell hasnt been great but this team was just thrown together in a very odd way

Though I will say this, it is not that many parts away from working. I think the GM convinces the owner to spend what is needed , trade who you have to, to make it work if only to save his job. All in is my guess for real pitching. What other option is there for a GM in a case like this?

They did nothing until it was much too late. I did like the bat they got late last year (Cespedes) but he's already gone much more than 1 hole to fill now.

A good hijacking in the name of analysis is always welcome. I will say that on the Ticket this afternoon, the discussion of "who gets fired with the Sox" was a topic that garnered attention. And - as long as it is a short stay to "get a taste" of the big league, then I guess I don't have a problem with Gallo coming up. And it might be time to let him spend some time in Round Rock (AAA) when he goes back down. Get time in the outfield and get time with better pitching. He is really fun to watch. I just don't want to see him here until he's ready.

And they just added a couple of years to his deal so he's here for awhile. I guess they could move him to first... but when I saw Gallo at Frisco they had him in Right. I "think" that's the plan.

He's still got some growing up to do. And I suspect he's going to discover that clearly over the next couple of weeks.

He still needs a little more time in the minors which he will get. But - the stage isn't to big for the kid. He's the real deal.

Speaking of stellar... Gentlemen - may I introduce Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzales. I really liked the Rangers chances on paper this winter. Looked like a winner with guys coming back, then "stuff happened" and it looked like groundhog day and "dejavu all over again." Honestly, is there really a team in that division that is better? The Angels are not the same team as last year. Seattle could have a new manager before long. oakland a fire sale and Houston? uh, Cinderella had to get home by a certain hour or it was pumpkin city and them Stros are a looong waaay from home. Not happening. gonna gt interesting.

Prince is on an absolute tear right now and they are definitely improved at the plate... but Martinez and Gonzales have been terrific and Wandy Rodriguez was nothing short of a great scrap heap signing. Add to that Holland and Harrison being on their way back... Amazing.

Then if a team did sneak into the playoffs, you still have to win a lot of games against the best competition. Not just a three game streak like in the NFL. It should make for a fun summer for you. good. the fun part is having a team that competes and has a tinkers chance, even if it does not pan out. Me thinks you have more than a tinkers chance this year.

Watched the astos vs yankees these last four games. they have some very nice young players, they should after drafting at the top of every round for years, but I don't see a team that I think will last 162 games. they are something like 13-14 for the month of june, they seem to be leveling off. pitching may well be the straw that breaks them this year. that park is nice, very nice, and friendly to hitters. I do like their manager. right man at the right place at the right time. may end up like seattle back in the day when arod was a young player for them too as they like to compare their young ss to. that seattle team was interesting too, but it never won any WS. never even got to one.

Well Josh goes long 2 times Better yet they beat the Sox Better news from my perspective... Chi Chi Gonzales is here. Only got to hear the recap last night after I flew back in from Virginia but it sounds like he pitched really well in his first MLB start. Heard his interview after the game... the kid sounds really comfortable. He's the first of the "Kiddie Korp" down in Round Rock. There are more. We just got the Milwaukee AA team here this year. Moved from Birmingham (I think). Called the Biloxi Shuckers. Pretty good team. Won the 1st half of the season so they are in the playoffs. Of course all that did was get our two best players called up to AAA. They began the first of the season playing 54 road games in a row. The stadium wasn't ready until Jun 6...but they are home now and having a heyday....good little team and fun to go watch.

Thread reminds me of when my wife and I were dating. Ranger's game was one of our date nights...back then it was $2/parking, $2 each for bleacher seats. we would sit with a group from the GM plant and they would watch my wife while I went for eats or beer. This was back when they still played in the old AAA stadium in Arlington. Great times.
Always been a Rangers fan

Good ol' Beach Blvd... lot different that it was in 1976/77 now that the casinos are in place but lots of good times (buddy from the Air Force used to make the trek there from Orlando area and sent more than a few pics). And yes. The I110/US90 intersection is very familiar.
