For the second season in a row, but only the third time in 21 seasons, the number one seed from each conference met in the league championship. This will also be the first time in 10 years that an NFL team has made consecutive appearances in the Super Bowl since the Patriots played in Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Super Bowl XLIX will be the Seahawks' second consecutive Super Bowl appearance, having beaten the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, while the New England Patriots will be returning for their eighth Super Bowl appearance, and their first since losing to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. With their appearance in Super Bowl XLIX the New England Patriots join the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers as one of the three teams that collectively share the record for most Super Bowl appearances, as each has appeared in 8 separate Super Bowls to date

How it's supposed to work... the two best teams playing for the championship.
Let the two weeks of hyperbole and silliness commence.

I hope the Seahawks defense frustrates Tom Brady as much as they did Manning in the last SB. That game was so beautiful I watched it twice!

So 11 New England balls were under inflated in the Conference Championship game by 2lbs each according to Chris Mortensen

So Tom Brady will tie the immortal Mike Lodish with most Super Bowl appearances Feb 1 with 6 . Surprised to find that the player with the most consecutive Super Bowl appearances with 5 was Gale Gilbert he of 183 career passes always thought it was Haley but he won 5 Gilbert was on the losing side every time a record he holds with Cornelius Bennett

So 11 New England balls were under inflated in the Conference Championship game by 2lbs each according to Chris Mortensen And - ALL balls are inspected prior to the game by the officials. Both teams. And - the official responsible for said inspection... Walt Anderson. Head of Big 12 officiating. So... I'd really like to hear what they have to say about this. Bad month for NFL officials all in all.

This whole affair should not be hard to get to the bottom of. Just pull that kid who was running around tossing game balls to the refs out of class, take him to a safe house and waterboard him.

Well I'll be the decenter here. I have nothing against the Hawks, but they aren't the same team that drubbed Peyton last year. If it weren't for the doofus Bostick bungling the on side kick, likely we would be seeing GB in the big game. Sorry Swampy, but I'm going with NE, flat game testicles or not.
PLAY BALL!!!!!!

This game should be close but it wouldn't surprise me if the Pats just took off and won it by 14 or so.

I'm betting on the team that wins the turnover battle and avoids key penalties. You gotta win that turnover battle. It's like proven by stats.

Useless stats part 1 Since the 1970 merger, teams with the #1 scoring defense that appear in the Super Bowl are 13-3 and have won 7 of the last 8 times. The 2013 Seahawks were one of those 7 recent Super Bowl winners.

The 2013 Seahawks were one of those 7 recent Super Bowl winners. Useless stats part 2 Pick six Twelve teams have returned an interception for a touchdown in a Super Bowl. Those teams are 12-0 when they bring a pick all the way back for six, with the most recent coming from Super Bowl XLVIII MVP Malcolm Smith. The 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team to bring multiple INTs to the house in a Super Bowl, returning three Rich Gannon throws for scores in Super Bowl XXXVII.
