This is why hockey players fuckin rule. Growing up, my Mom was the ultimate hockey Mom, getting up at 4 a.m. traveling to other states etc to get us to games. She really knew her shit too, could convo with the best of them on hockey. Her favorite player is Peter Forsberg, whom she got to meet twice and for some crazy reason she loved Dan Hinote, who came to see her on a player/hosp visit thing years ago. Funny thing is those two ended up talking hockey for almost two hours lol.
Anyway, she was diagnosed with terminal Cancer about a month ago. So here is how the story goes. Anybody who knows me knows that my best friend from childhood, his brother in law works pretty deep in the AV's org, when he heard of my Moms condition he reached out to him to see if he could get an autographed jersey from Forsberg(I wanted her to be buried in it) But unfortunately couldn't come up with it. Well the story doesn't end there, upon hearing a rumor about this(rest is here say from Brother in law) Alex Tanguay and Nick Holden had the team sign a jersey for her and some how Joe Sakic got involved who reached out to Peter Forsberg who did actually call my Mom at the hospital and talked to her for about 10 minutes.
I went to the Av's - Flyers game Weds night where I received the Jersey from my Buddies Brother in law, it was awesome.
I never did get to tell my Mom the whole story for when we got back on Thursady she was pretty much out of it. She died yesterday and she will be missed but she'll have a sweet ass jersey to wear.
This isn't a story for sympathy but to show that sometimes players still respect the fans and know there is just more than sports in life.
Thank you Wayne for all you did man, You made a dying Lady happy..

Thank you Wayne for all you did man, You made a dying Lady happy.. I lost my mom to Esophageal Cancer in 2006. Best memories in those last days were her laughing at some of my ridiculous humor and getting to tell her I loved her. Those memories will live with me as these memories will with you. Peace.

I lost both my parents 33 days apart back in 2008 so I know how gut wrenching the final moments are.

My condolences SF. Canuck, Center and Otis said things better than i could have. I share their sentiments.
That is an awesome story of how humble and cool most hockey players are.
Hopefully your mom wasn't in too much pain.

That is a very cool story. My condolences. I just went through that from May - August last year with my Dad and pancreatic cancer.
