Eagles' announcement: Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie today announced a new structural change for the Philadelphia Eagles. Howie Roseman will be elevated to the role of Executive Vice President of Football Operations and will continue directing contract negotiations, salary cap management, and NFL strategic matters, while overseeing the team’s medical staff, equipment staff and more. Head coach Chip Kelly will now oversee the player personnel department. He will also lead efforts to hire a new personnel executive – a process that will begin immediately.
“We are a good football team and we believe these steps will help make us a great team," said Lurie. "That step - from good to great - is the most difficult one for any organization to make. To do that, sometimes you have to step back and really look hard at where you are today and what you want to become."
Roseman has been with the Eagles for 16 years in a variety of roles - as general manager since 2010. “Philadelphia is my home and the Eagles are my family. My number one goal is to help bring a championship to this city and that will never change," said Roseman. "I believe this will solidify the trust we have all placed in Coach Kelly." Kelly, who was hired as the Eagles head coach in 2013, has had two ten-win seasons.
“I am very confident about where we are headed as a team and as an organization. I look forward to continue working with Jeffrey and Howie as well as the personnel department," said Kelly. “This is not a one-man operation,” added Kelly. “It will truly take a team effort to acquire and develop the best football players and then put the best team on the field each week. It will take all of us working together."

Sounds like Chip and Howie don't have drinks and cigars together much. I'm curious to see how this dynamic works.
Personally... I hope it's a fucking disaster.

There's no crying in football. BTW may your entire team come down with a case of the flaming roids 10 minutes before the Lions game.

Surprised? Yes i am. sounds like they are blaming last years lousy draft class all on the GM. Except the the chipper had a lot to do with those picks. The one from his old school was all on him. Bad idea to let the HC have final say and that is what this looks like. Never ends well ( see Seattle and ask Mike). Who had the problem with their best WR they let go? The GM or or the HC?

That ones easy. Howie did.

Easy to blame their defense for the three game loss that knocked them out of the playoffs, but their offense averaged less than 22 pts during that stretch. Ya play that kind of offense and your defense is gassed by the second half, or sooner sometimes. As Vince Lombardi once said, " fatigue makes cowards of us all."

Ya play that kind of offense and your defense is gassed by the second half, or sooner sometimes. As Vince Lombardi once said, " fatigue makes cowards of us all." I don't blame the entire defense. There's simply too many holes in the secondary, most notably Bradley Fletcher. Fletcher was burned a disgusting amount of times and the results of the Cowboys and Redskins games could have easily been different without him. Nate Allen has been garbage since the day he was drafted and it amazes me he is still on the team. Allen consistently fails to provide safety help over the top. Either the coaches put him in dumb spots or he's always out of position. Cary Williams is a solid #2 corner IMO. But he's too much of a hot head and has a bad habit of committing unnecessary penalties on otherwise successful 3rd down stops. Malcolm Jenkins and Brandon Boykin (nickel) are the only two guys in the secondary that I'd be upset to see go. The front seven is okay with the exception of linebacker depth. The Eagles defense never actually looks tired to me. When your defense is tired you start giving up huge running plays, which was never the case this season. They held DeMarco Murray to two mediocre games over a three week stretch at the end of the season. The one thing Chip Kelly does undeniably well is keep his players in fantastic physical condition. I would agree with the comments about the offense though. For how much hype surrounds Chip Kelly, the offense was a huge disappointment this year - most notably leading the league in turnovers. And the fumbling problem was apparent from preseason Game 1; they went the entire season without correcting that. But when they played teams like San Francisco and Seattle, the offense completely disappeared. Part of the problem was due to injuries along the offensive line (and Lane Johnson's suspension) throughout the first half of the season. Part of the problem was that they played the second half of the season without their starting QB. There were a lot more issues than that though. The love in they got going over there makes me want to.........

Eagles fans have wanted Howie Roseman gone for years -- he's mediocre at best. But for some reason Jeff Lurie loves the guy. As long as Roseman is away from the draft I'm happy. The obsession with former Oregon players is apparent and clearly shows Chip Kelly's thumbprint. That just stinks of Steve Spurrier's failed run in Washington to me. IMO when you hire a college coach into an NFL team there should be one stipulation: no drafting or trading for players from the former school. They can't keep their emotions out of the move and it clouds judgment. However, they can go and sign all the undrafted Oregon players they want because UDFAs are a crap-shoot anyway and don't cost the team anything. They botched the DeSean Jackson move completely. Someone in the organization was leaking out info. Every day there was a new development, which ultimately led to Philadelphia getting nothing in return. If those fools in the front office would have kept their lips sealed they could have gotten a decent trade for D-Jax. Although it didn't help that they opted to do this during a year with a WR-loaded draft. Then there was the drafting of Marcus Smith with last year's 1st round pick. I'm not sure if he played a single snap during the entire season. Anyone responsible for that move deserves to be fired. What pisses me off more is I wanted Kelvin Benjamin who was drafted two spots later and turned out out to be a stud - so basically the every day fan could have done a better job with that pick.
