Don't tell anyone here, but I really like their young foundation... -Auston Matthews -Mitch Marner -William Nylander -Kasperi Kapanen -Nazem Kadri -Morgan Reilly -Frederik Andersen They could achieve some good stuff if they could keep that talent together. Agreed - and they have a bloody good Goalie now as well All they need now is a good coach.

Losing a player like Kessel put them in complete disarray, he was their entire offensive system for many years & they had no sense of identity with him gone. I think they'll have a better chance of forging an identity this season.

I think they'll have a better chance of forging an identity this season. Well they can't do much worse than last year, but yeah, last year everything was different and they were just trying to put the pieces together. I also think they deliberately tanked (I'm looking at you Mike) to get in the lottery for the number 1 pick. Some of the kids they brought in could have an impact this year, but there is a "loser" mentality on the team and that will be hard to break. It still remains to be seen if Babs can make a silk purse out of a sow's rear.

It still remains to be seen if Babs can make a silk purse out of a sow's rear. It will be tough for a team that relies on their young & inexperienced talent to be competitive, but they do benefit from playing in the Atlantic Division. With the exception of the 2 Florida teams, I don't think that there's any team in that division that's really overwhelmingly better than the Maple Leafs... Red Wings: no Datsyuk, sub par dmen, also inexperienced with the exceptions of Zetterburg & Kronwall (who are both old) Bruins: old & slow, still strapped for cash, likely to be sellers come the trade deadline. Senators: probably the best Atlantic team that's not in Florida, but they can't play defense worth a lick. Canadiens: rely too much on Carey Price, downgraded from the Subban/Weber trade, relying on Radulov to get to the next level. Sabres: they might be the best dark horse pick in the division, but they're just as unproven as the Maple Leafs & the Evander Kane distraction doesn't help.

I just don't get why anyone would hate the Maple Leafs. When I think of the Leafs, the emotion I feel is sympathy. It's like hating on someone with severe mental & physical disabilities.

I just see them as a tragic comedy ever since Sundin left.

Going way back, but have you guys of a Leafs player named Teeder Kennedy? I often think of Mats Sundin or Dave Keon as the greatest Maple Leafs of all time, but Teeder Kennedy has a good case. He led the Leafs to back to back to back Cups from 1947-49, the first 3peat in NHL history, www.hockey-reference.com/players/k/kennete01.html

Worth noting I have relatives & friends that are Flyer fans, but still!

Do we really need to censor "Toronto"? I think that's a bit excessive, especially if links are being censored as well.

That's why it's called a "Disrespect Thread"... Trying to think what the Maple Leafs did to any of your teams to be hated on, gotta go back to Center Ice's Habs during the 1960s to come up with anything relevant. Then again, you usually do have to go back to the 1960's to find anything relevant about the Maple Leafs.

Here's the deal - our good friends north of the border are pretty much spoon fed Laffs 24/7. HNIC might as well be called "To***to Game of the Week". The equivalent I suppose is when the Cowboys are bad and still end up being the Game of the Week or when meaningful games in baseball are minimized because the Yankees and Red Sox are playing meaningless games.
Consequently, my business partners deem it necessary to censor this horrible word. I support them especially with the hated Joey Bats plying his trade in that market.

The Cowboys analogy sort puts it in perspective.

And on top of what Otis said, their fans are insufferable. They haven't won a cup since Jesus was a teenager and they ride into town cheering how they are Canada's team. Maddening! To quote a former colleague of mine from Turkey, "They are goat droppings"!!

To quote a former colleague of mine from Turkey, "They are goat droppings"!! I consider the Montreal Canadiens to be the undisputed Canada's team, both Englican & Francophone. At the same time, if you go by the old model of a Francophone vs Englican team, then the Canadiens would be the Francophone team and the Englican team would be one of the following: -Canucks -Flames -Jets -Maple Leafs -Oilers -Senators I think the Maple Leafs are the closest thing to the Englican team of Canada because of their history. But I could see how fans of Canadian teams would be offended & how Canadians as a people would be embarrassed having the Maple Leafs be called "Canada's team".
