I have had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it.

Sad... on this weekend of the first Cowboys/Packers playoff game since the fabled Ice Bowl, word comes of the passing of the GREAT Jethro Pugh. One of the longest tenured Cowboys and one of the most humble guys ever. R.I.P. #75... Met Rayfield Wright one day....was working at Chester Clinic and Hospital in South Dallas on a Saturday. Reading the paper in the Xray room when it suddenly got a little darker. Looked up and Rayfield was standing in the doorway....and I mean the WHOLE doorway. Seems a relative had been brought into the ER and he thought he was in xray...we talked for a short bit, but he was very nice as well.... Got to meet Mr. Cowboy at my father-in-law's lodge golf tournament a couple of years ago. I tried not to whip his ass with a bunch of "Mr. Lilly...". Shook his hand and was going to walk on but he took the time to all about how good of a job my father in law did organizing the event (both are Masons). Talked about anything but football. It was pretty cool. He was on the Ticket this afternoon talking about the Ice Bowl and stories about the cold. The man still commands respect. And - you could tell he was bummed about his friend Jethro.

Not sure who he was with, but was struck by how 'small' he was compared to what I thought...of course he had been out for a while and was in good shape, just lost all the muscle mass he had playing. Living in DFW saw a bunch of those guys..Harvey Martin, Too Tall, Randy White, Tom Landry, but tried not to bother them. Archie Manning had a golf tournament here every year that was nice. He would stay on the first hole and drive with every team...nice guy as well. Won an autographed football by him once. OK...enough name dropping.
