BOSTON (CBS) — In a matter of just a few hours on Sunday night, Jonas Gray went from being an undrafted, unknown running back to a national star who graced the cover of Sports Illustrated.
And just like that, on Friday, Gray was brought back to earth by his head coach.
Gray was absent from Friday’s practice, initially for unknown reasons. Yet later in the afternoon, the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe reported that Gray was sent home from the facility after he showed up late.
Gray, 24, rushed for 201 yards and four touchdownson 37 carries on Sunday night in Indianapolis. Previously, he had just 32 carries for 131 yards and zero touchdowns in his career, all of which he gained this season with the Patriots.
Belichick has a long record of having a zero-tolerance policy with regard to tardiness. He famously sent home Adalius Thomas, Randy Moss, Derrick Burgess and Gary Guyton after the four players showed up late during a snowstorm in 2009. This season, Belichick sent home superstar Darrelle Revis for the same offense. Revis made amends with the head coach later that day, and the two moved on rather quickly.
According to Howe, Gray planned on returning to Gillette Stadium in the afternoon to apologize to Belichick.

So Gray is going to get benched for missing the start of practice. Just my luck. guaranteed this is what happens they give blount a real number he starts sunday (punishment for gray) he shares time with gray 80/20 blount gets about 5 carries |

Detroit has a strong line. Look for vereen to be a bigger part of the game plan this week.

i still think the pats roll its a game in had them losing earlier this year, i am on record...but... james ihedigbo pride of umass. and yeah, i'm not saying vereen will be the main RB....i just think he will be a bigger part of the game plan than in past weeks. they dont have anyone who can cover gronk, not one guy on that defense says to me "he can contain gronk". granted, we have a similar issue with calvin johnson (megatron is a name kids use)...but our chances are better. stafford can move outside the pocket they have nice defensive numbers, but they havent faced a team remotely close to this pats 42-21 |

I remember the Lions D line pummeling Brady in pre season last year. I'm a little worried about that
(yeah, "pre season" but I dont think as an o line you like seeing your QB get killed, they just couldn't do anything about it)

If this was the road game in Green Bay, no way Gray would be getting benched.
