some thoughts on the thread after reading these. 1. flyers d will be fine. ghost, morin, sanheim, and hagg will be at least nhl capable dmen. ghost was sent down mostly to get quality playing time. having him on the big club is a massive waste and could fuck him up immensely in the confidence dept. those other guys you dont hear much on, but they are doing well in their respective leagues. 2. simmonds. flyers moved richards for simmonds, brayden schenn, and a pick (was flipped for nick grossman). hard to even look back at that trade now and say it wasnt worth it. simmonds is a first line winger imo, but the flyers put him on the second line bc they have voracek. schenn, doesnt look like anything special, but i think he will be a crucial trade piece bc of his age. grossman, a decent defensive dman who plays very physical. keep in mind, richards did win a cup in LA, but he has REALLY been in the doghouse ever since, sometimes being relegated to the 4th line. 3. mason. i think you guys are nuts. i think mason has been great. sadly (for him), he is holding the seat warm for Stolarz and the d coming up. this d the flyers have now is baaaaad. emery is decent, but he lets in softies imo. 4. coaching. im SOOOOOO not a "blame the coach" guy, however i'm thinking berube isnt the guy for philly. he is always juggling lines, and sitting guys for no reason (see delzotto). no clue who there is to get, but im mystified by chief sometimes. 1- When does this start? Roo and crew aren't getting any younger, A massive defensive change wouldn't hurt much right now cause it's gotta happen in the off season so.... 2- Sorry man, this trade was def a better winner for LA, they needed a good solid tough gritty forward who was decent on faceoffs and Richards has won two cups now, not saying Simmonds isn't a decent forward but his defensive skills lack emensely, Richie could play every situation and is a great PK guy also, Simmonds, not so much. 3- Although I agree Mason was very good last year I just don't see this guy putting together any amazing season or getting hot enough to win a cup. It's time to start filling new rolls on this team. 4- Berube doesn't need to leave, but would like to see a better coach and Berube go back to being a solid bench coach, This team really isn't far off just need to insert the right line up. Time for a youth movement. 1. i think next year you will see morin crack the lineup and possibly ghost. not sure how hextall will stand with him coming off surgery. 2. short term, that deal worked out for the kings. they needed richards and schenn wasnt making an impact when they needed him (the time of the two cup runs) so they mortgaged their future for the "now" and it paid off. imo, the carter deal for LA was more important to their cups than the richards one. in the end, richards was given way too much by philly and homer NEEDED to move that awful contract. simmonds is (and if isnt, will be) an elite power forward. i'm a HUGE fan of the guy. he's like a modern day tocchet. 3. i can see mason getting hot in the playoffs, but not with this d. that said, he is the placeholder until Stolaz is ready. 4. berube is a good bench guy, i just get baffled by what he does. and when they let up a bad look, his "uhhhh duhhhh" face drives me mad lol. honestly, i think they have looked much better as of late. this reminds me of last season. they had that west coast run and then caught on for the rest of the season. overall i got faith in hextall and think they at least have deep cup runs in them starting next season.

Correction, 2 Cups for Richards in L.A. Doghouse? You think Mike Richards should be the starting center over Kopitar or Carter? LA is loaded with C's. 3. Call it the curse of Pelle, it is still your achilles heel. 4. You fired Lavy, say all you want about the players not listening anymore...yada yada.....he was handicapped with the roster he was given after that Cup run and the selling off of pieces.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Short term? He has 2 Cups in what 3 years? Richards is a huge part of that success because he solidifies the middle. How many teams in the league have that depth down center? Your point before about Doghouse is priceless. With Carter, Kopitar, Stoll and Toffoli now; he has to be the best 3rd and/or 4th line center in the league. How many teams roll out a Mike Richards type player...that is depth. Contract hurts? How? They tacked on Gabby at the trade deadline and he lit us up like a Christmas tree. I think you are missing the point about Carter and Richards being the Vorachek and Giroux of yester year. You had two guys who carried the whole team and WERE the team whereas in LA they are stars but there is so much more of a supporting cast.

There was talks they would maybe buy him out after the last cup. prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/12/welcome-mike-richards-to-the-trade-rumor-mill/his contract in LA isnt awful. His contract in philly was an albatross. when it comes to him/carter vs g/voracek, that's a tough one. richards is better defensively than g, but g is better on o (and maybe draws). carter is a scorer, but i never saw a scorer who came up so small for a team as carter did in philly. i do think like superfly said, the flyers need to get their show on the road bc their best players (g/voracek) ARE getting older.

Agree....and that was my point. You need to build around those two and Simmonds. One thing you cant deny, Richards has another Cup. He got the Fly boys within a 5 hole of a SC, and boom the team imploded. All said and done last year Richards ended with 41 pts. for 4th best on the team so I wouldnt buy into the BS trade stuff too much. Contract is bloated sure, but they did trade for him so they knew what they were buying. Besides with Kopitar putting up numbers I cant see the reason for Richards playing over him.

HOPEFULLY voracek is re-upped, and giving simmonds the A means he is locked in and going nowhere (HOPEFULLY). here's who i'd keep off the current roster: Voracek-Giroux-Raffl ?-Laughton-Simmonds Bellemare-couturier-Read (totally willing to move read though) ?-?-? (maybe rinaldo on the 4th line, but meh to him) ?-? (Ghost-Morin hopefully...some day...) Grossman-Streit Schultz-Delzotto (problem is as a pair these guys dont work well together ,but they are both solid as 3rd pair guys imo). Mason ? When it comes to Richards, blahhhh. richards wasa great on the pk and defensively. offensively he shot WAY too much when he should have passed (seriously, find any stats on 2 on 1 or odd man breakaways in philly. he ALLWAAYYYYY shot and fucking missed). he was riding the pine almost last year. he is dead weight in LA imo. i just PRAY the flyers dont bring him back.

Hes had moments where he plays decent hockey and plays more like a Matthew Barnaby role. Too bad those moments are few and far away.

Seems like every time I settle in to watch a Flyer's game; he fucks up on his first shift, PP and then Fly boys down by 1 quickly. I swear I want to see someone skate by and punch him in the fucking head. Douchebag.

Seriously a big body who could actually contribute would be way more productive, Rinaldo brings nothing to the table but an occasional scrap and a huge hit once in a blue moon, problem with his huge hits is he has to go looking for them, I like physical players who hit according to the movement of the play, Rinaldo doesn't have that in him.

You need to make a move, you need to some how create a 2nd line. nashville is a top team, flyers arent. no shock how that game went. i do think laughton and simmonds are a good start for that second line, not sure what the third guy needs to be (sniper, playmaker?). coburn squatting down like he was taking a dump on that 5v3 was just hysterical to see. i wasnt even mad, i just laughed. its so sad watching vinny. he's had a great jump in his step, but every good game he plays is one step closer he is to being gone. ugh.

I know most Flyer fans have split personalities but lets not get carried away you'll make it hard on old potheads like me to keep up with the conversation lol.

I think being one of the winningest American coaches speaks volumes but not much you can do when the GM promptly sells off the team.

A goalie who played behind the trap in Phoenix ?

Yam, went to the game last night, I gotta tell you man your love for Simmonds is truely misplaced. I watched him a lot and he is horrible, as a big body he is that, As far as all around hockey skills, He is lacking immensely. Sorry man just my opinion but he is far below average as a hockey player.
