bummer BOSTON (CBS) — LeGarrette Blount is no longer a New England Patriot. The free-agent running back signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. The deal is for two years. ESPN’s Adam Schefter later confirmed the report. The Patriots had reportedly shown interest in re-signing Blount, but with Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen handling the bulk of the running back duties, signing Blount was not necessarily a top priority. Blount, 27, ran for 772 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He came on late in the season for New England, rushing for 466 yards and eight touchdowns in a three-game stretch from Week 16 through the divisional round of the playoffs. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has not been charged, but is reportedly being investigated for a possible sexual assault.
TMZ reports that police are investigating an alleged incident at the Viceroy Hotel in Miami this month.
The investigation is described as in the “beginning stages.” No details were provided about the nature of the allegations against Kaepernick.
TMZ reached out to Kaepernick’s agent and the 49ers and neither had any comment.
UPDATE 12:43 p.m. ET: The 49ers released the following statement from General Manager Trent Baalke: “The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have signed DE Will Smith. Terms of the contract were not announced.
Smith, 32, is a veteran of 10 NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints (2004-13) after joining the team as a first round draft pick (18th overall) out of Ohio State in 2004. The 6-foot-3, 282-pounder was released by the Saints on Feb. 12, 2014.
Smith has played in 139 NFL games with 120 starts and has accumulated 457 total tackles, 67 1/2 sacks, 25 passes defensed, two interceptions, 20 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He has started in eight postseason games and added 22 total tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. Smith was named to the Pro Bowl in 2006 after finishing with a career-high 10 ½ sacks.
Smith spent the entire 2013 season on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered during training camp.
