was just looking ... from 2007 (contract started) - 2012 .... 139 OPS+ .... not horrendous, thats 5 years in a 10 contract that were at least good Guy was an animal for many years as a Yankee Oh, for sure! But we are talking about the 2nd contract here. When he opted out. Guys like Arod, CC & Teixiera would be worth about $2-3m on the open market this offseason.

So its definitely no longer Ryan Howards crown ... jsut due to the amount of years left Is Verlander the worst contract in baseball? Or is still Albert? Depends, how many years is Dusty on the books for?

Think of it this way - most of these other guys at least lived up to their contracts for a year or two. Unless BJ miraculously turns it around, I think the Braves will look back and say - "in every year of his contract, we should have started some MLB minimum prospect instead of him." Good point. You can say the Braves wasted $75m on Upton. How much was wasted on the other nominees? Certainly more money but consider this: The Braves wasting $75 mill on BJ (who was actually worse than the replacement player last year) is akin to the yankees wasting $150 mill? $225 mill? Braves aren't poor by any means but the Yankees certainly can swallow their mistakes a lot easier than the Braves can.

Sorry, Paydirt. Any conversation about "worst contract" begins and ends with Arod. You disagree? was just looking ... from 2007 (contract started) - 2012 .... 139 OPS+ .... not horrendous, thats 5 years in a 10 contract that were at least good and, factor in the Zero they are paying him this year.

True, but you have to look at the total dollars wasted. Upton was a bargain compared to ARod. That's why Josh Hamilton isn't in the convo. Shorter deal. Lmfao Josh Hamilton is definitely in the conversation Only if he played for the Yankees.

They're actually paying him $3 mill this year. While they don't have to pay him for game days the way it works is they are actually paying him for off days. $3 mill for Arod not to play at all is still arguably better than $15 mill for BJ to hurt your team.

I am hoping they pay him $30 million to not play next year!

Wow. The Braves have spent $30 mill on a guy with a 64 OPS+. Upton makes Jeter look like he's leaving on a high note. Yup. And don't forget about Uggla. He's making millions in the minors. Pitiful.
