Alls it took was Carlos Quentin and Ian Kinsler to get hurt in 2008 and they handed an MVP to Dustin Pedjeter.

He might finish top 5, I don't think it's a lock though, especially if the Tigers miss the playoffs. Abreu, Trout, and Micheal Brantley have all had better overall offensive seasons, and like you said, he's half a baseball player. And yeah, Morneau deserved it. A DH should never win unless he just blows the rest of the competition away, and his team makes the postseason. Frank Thomas should have won 7 MVPs Maybe 3 or 4

DHs should never win MVPs... But ill vote for a pitcher Uhhhhh A starting pitcher has more control over his team's result in the game he is starting more than any other position or player in any other team sport. That being said, I don't think they should win MVP either.

All of it. But the pitcher has zero control over his team's offense. He could pitch a gem and lose 1-0. Every play in the NFL starts with the QB. A hot goalie can carry a team to a Stanley Cup by himself. The influence of a starting pitcher has been reduced in the age of pitch counts and specialization.

Every play in the NFL starts with the QB. A hot goalie can carry a team to a Stanley Cup by himself. The influence of a starting pitcher has been reduced in the age of pitch counts and specialization. So? The starting pitcher's performance is usually the determining factor in a team's success in a given game...or at least he's the most important in giving them a chance to win. A QB hands the ball off to someone else at least 25% of the time, and is totally dependent on his teammates blocking and his receivers catching his passes. A goalie may only face 15 shots in a given game. LeBron is only scoring 25% of his team's points. If your starting pitcher is shit, far more often than not, you have no chance. A QB can ride his defense or running backs. Your typical NBA squad has someone else capable of picking up the slack for its scorer if he has an off night. The best argument IMO is the goalie, but the pitcher is the epicenter of all action in the game, so that's why I go with him.

Trout and Stanton have virtually identical stats this year. Although Stanton gets on base more.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw has been named the National League’s Most Valuable Player, receiving 18 first-place votes. He is the first pitcher to win the NL MVP and the Cy Young award in the same season since Bob Gibson in 1968. He joins Sandy Koufax and Don Newcombe as Dodgers to have won both awards in the same season, and is the first Dodger to win the MVP since Kirk Gibson in 1988.
Kershaw, 26, led the league in ERA for the fourth consecutive season, but his 2014 campaign was arguably the best of his career. He finished with a 1.77 ERA and a 239/31 K/BB ratio in 198 1/3 innings, helping lead the Dodgers to another NL West title.
Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton finished in second place and Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen finished in third place

Another exception to the rule.
