Worth noting Gonzalez rates at 7.3 bWAR as a Dodger. In 322 games. Napoli rates at 7.1 bWAR... in 243 games. Napoli's quietly been a very good 1B for the Sox.
Napoli: .258/.368/.461, 128 OPS+ Gonzalez: .286/.339/.459, 122 OPS+
Only thing Gonzalez really has going for him over Napoli is the better average. Gonzalez hasn't been the same since the shoulder injury and he's no longer the power hitter he used to be. They're both excellent defenders.

Quite an apt summary of the "perfect storm". Both teams have benefited. But the Dodgers will have a similar quandary on their hands when, as the article stated, Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford will become an albatross to the Dodgers.

When looking back at this, I myself choose to remember one thing before I start breaking down and scrutinizing this move. That being, the state of the Dodgers just before this move was made. The whole debacle of the Frank McCourt ownership period, and the waning of Dodger fans everywhere, as it looked like the once proud franchise was headed to the dumper.
So, money well spent or no talent and on field wise, the trade did do one thing for certain. It gave Dodger fans hope. And, that is hard to hang a price tag on.......

"it worked out well for both sides.
which really is the whole point of trading"
SAYS YOU!!!!!!
Now granted, the more even the trade is, the more apt it is to get done and go through. However, I know for me personally, in respect to fantasy, an even trade is of little or no interest to me. I tend to only do trades that I see as a clear win to me, and, I think in their heart of hearts, all G.M's would feel this way.
NOW, what constitutes a win might be different for many. A win could mean the team got better talent wise ( The Dodgers ). At the same time, a win could mean saving a ton of $$ in the process (Red Sox ). So, it is very possible that, when the trade went down, that both sides saw it as a win, and, for both, it was for their purposes.
So, yes. I'm the guy that wanted to trade Brolio for Brock, Larry Andersen for Jeff Bagwell, and Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz. I want to win, and win big.
Have I mentioned how few people want to trade with me ever, and, how alomst none come back for seconds?

All I can say is good riddance to BOTH of those two! Yeah. A-Gon was fun to watch in 2011, but the "God's Plan" comment was just idiotic. Though to his credit, A-Gon was one of the few Sox that even showed up in September 2011. Sox pitching was cromulent in July and August even after Buchholz went down, but the lack of depth really showed in September and just completely bombed.

Yes he did show up but he was a cancer for this team. Always complaining and clearly Crawford hated it here with those pathetic comments he kept on making. How about you make them a few weeks after the trade.. Not like a 1 1/2 after. Hold a grudge much? Yup, "God's Plan" was stupid.
