in the real world, people have a tendency to look at their budget and the new salary before changing positions. He knew what he would earn as a member of SCOTUS, he knew the restrictions for outside earnings. If he was really in that much trouble financially then he'd have to be pretty stupid to take the position. He wanted the status of being there but not the restrictions, makes me think that there was some whispering in his ear that he would be taken care of. This under the table and behind the back shit was part of the plan all along. |

I suspect that they realize another term with TFG just might mean the end of the court, but there is the distinct possibility that they will go for the old...oh, he wouldn't do that to us line of reasoning.
