I would like to state that I do not think Jimmy Rollins is a Hall of Famer as of now ... He is however, very much on the border and I probably wouldnt vote for him if I had a vote. But he might end up being the bubble case of all bubble cases. He is still the 6th best defensive SS in baseball right now according to Fangraphs. And he has been very effective at the plate for a SS … its not unrealistic at all (of course, pending injury) that he can play another 3 years. Certainly giving him a very real compilers chance at the hall. If he has another 3 years (yes optimisitc but also realistic) he could be looking at estimates of H – 2,600+ HR – 240 – 250 2B – 500+ SB – 500+ RBI – 1,000+ That looks pretty HOF worthy to me as a SS when you couple in his defensive talents. I get that people have changed their outlook on what makes a Hall of Hamer and nobody any longer likes to take a look at a players career relative to his position. But, to completely neglect that argument is also ridiculous. Especially when said player is and has been elite defensively at that position – even more so when the position puts a premium on defense. Does he make it, who knows. But to discount it already is premature is all im saying. He’s not done playing yet and looks like he can play a few more quality years still.

Hes on the bubble for sure Be he is batting about .240 this season, which makes you wonder what kind of player he will look like for 3 more seasons...His power and SB numbers have been better than expected....But if he hangs around as a .220-.240 hitter, i dont know if that hurts or helps

Considering his position, winning, and success I think he could make it. Considering strict scrutiny for potential PED usage, the 10 year limit, and his teammates being implicated one way or the other, maybe not. It will be close for him I think.

So Rollins (97 ops+) is a Hall of Famer while Trammell and Durham are not?
homer fans are awesome

jebron, rollins "winning and success". he played 15 seasons, 2 world series appearances, 1 win, and his hitting went down every round of those seasons. meh.

They never won less than 80 games until 2013 ... i think that says about all i need to know him and winning

They were one of the best teams in baseball for 5 years or so? Rollins was a big part of that. Didn't he win an MVP in that stretch? 2007 he won mvp. leadoff hitter who hits .300 in exactly 0 of 15 seasons, isnt HOF material to me

rollins "mvp" year was by far the best year of his career, he hasnt sniffed those numbers since
utley had a 7.8 WAR that year

Good read Pickle. And yes, I too think he will be boarderline when all is said and done. Looking at some numbers, and comparing them against others, he falls a bit short in most scoring criteria. But, I guess there is a chance that he can still have 3 good seasons to top off his career. And, it would be really nice if he could hit for avg. in those years, as seeing an avg of under .270 just does not say HOF'er, shortstop or no....

3 seasons over .800 OPS probably wont crack 1,000 RBI or 2500 hits hall of pretty good Not many leadoff hitters do. Not seeing it though. Damn good player and an incredible base stealer, but his peak isn't that great (25.6 bWAR from 04-08). And his seasons outside of that were average-ish years.
