Terry Francona told Blake Wood he made Indians during mound visitBy Matt Snyder | Baseball Writer March 28, 2014 5:40 pm ET Just in case further proof was needed that Indians manager Terry Francona is awesome -- and, really, there shouldn't be -- we present this story. Thursday, Francona decided to notify Blake Wood that he had made the Tribe's bullpen during a seemingly-routine mound visit. Here's a picture, thanks to Indians prez Mark Shapiro: From Tito himself, via Fox Sports Ohio: "When I went to take him out, (catcher Luke) Carlin was coming and I told him to stay back there a little bit," manager Terry Francona said. "I went out there and asked (Wood) if he ever made the team on the mound? He was like no. I go 'well, you just did.' After that we came and talked to him the dugout but you could tell he was pretty excited." Wood is a 28-year-old right-hander and he has been to the majors before, but it's been a tough road back. He had Tommy John surgery and 2012 and suffered multiple setbacks before appearing twice for the Indians once rosters were expanded last September. This spring, Wood has a 0.93 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings. www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24504845/terry-francona-told-blake-wood-he-made-indians-during-mound-visit
