Giants relief pitcher Sergio Romo had a few choice words for San Francisco police the other night, after the cops received a report that two men were trying to push a woman into an SUV on a downtown street.
According to police sources, officers were sent to Taylor and Post streets near Union Square about 2 a.m. Friday — hours after the Giants had clinched their World Series berth — to respond to a report that one of the men forcing the woman into the vehicle had her in a bear hug.
When police arrived, the woman — identified as Romo’s girlfriend — was being held back by her brother.
Romo and the brother’s girlfriend were there as well, said the police sources.
As the cops started to sort things out, Romo told them repeatedly that “you are making a mistake,” said the sources.
The cops eventually determined that the two couples had been having a good time on the town when Romo’s girlfriend spotted a text from his ex-girlfriend on his cell phone and became upset.
“Romo and the girlfriend’s brother were trying to calm her down and get her out of Dodge,” one cop told us.
Police moved to separate everyone and ordered Romo, 31, to sit on the curb.
When Romo tried to stand back up, one of the cops held him at the shoulder and said, “You need to relax,” the police sources said.
“No, no, you need to relax,” Romo reportedly said. “You don’t know how to handle high-pressure situations.”
After interviewing everyone, the cops concluded that no crime had been committed and that the girlfriend was OK. Then they let everyone go on their way.
Subsequently, however, police found surveillance-camera footage that showed someone who looks like Romo carrying the distraught girlfriend in a bear hug.
As a result, “out of an abundance of caution,” according to police sources, the case has been sent to special investigations to make sure the two couples’ statements are accurate.
Representatives of Romo and the Giants did not return calls seeking comment.

I’m sure you noticed the guy behind home plate during Game 1 last night wearing the bright orange Miami Marlins gear. His name is Laurence Leavy, and he’s a lawyer from Miami who makes a point of (a) getting expensive seats to sporting events; and (b) wearing his Marlins gear while sitting in them.
It seems the Royals noticed him too and did their best to try to get him to change his clothes. As the Miami Herald reports, Levy told them to pound sand:
“The owner of the Royals was extremely upset that I was there,” Leavy said.
They offered him a private suite if he would move.
They tried enticing him with free World Series goodies if he would get rid of the orange jersey.
No way, Marlins Man said.
He paid $8,000 for that primo seat and he wasn’t about to give it up.

The one with the dog was cute. This one is just kind of sad. How would you like to be the kid that came to be on account of a bet your parents made? Therapy much?

Whenever I see an item like this, I think of how happy I am to have lost interest in video gaming just as these types of games were taking off. I know how much time I spent playing the older, more traditional types of games. These clash of clan type games, and in fact all the new popular games, seem to be endless, meaning you could easily spend many hours playing these games. It reminds me of how ex Tiger reliever Joel Zumaya hurt his arm playing the game Guitar Hero, and, how he has not been close to the same pitcher since.

I guess As someone who is a fan of a team from a city I no longer live in, and haven't for many years, I get why he is wearing his gear, and, I feel he has every right to do so. I wear my Dodger stuff to games at A T & T, whether the Giants are playing the Dodgers or not. That said, if anyone offered me something good to change, I would jump at that in a heartbeat. But, then again, I am a fairly poor man, meaning I would never be able to afford front row tickets. But still. in a case like this, you are no less a fan by changing IMO. In fact, it is just doing good business. You can just keep your fandom, but just hude it or tone in down for 3 hours aprox.

Mike Scioscia of the Angels and Matt Williams of the Nationals are Sporting News’ 2014 American League and National League Managers of the Year, respectively, as selected by a panel of 22 major league managers. SN has given Manager of the Year awards since 1936.
Scioscia and Williams took talented teams that underachieved in 2013 and led them to the best records in their respective leagues this season.
But they took different paths.
Scioscia, who previously was named SN Manager of the Year in 2002 and 2009, was in his fifteenth year with the Halos. Williams was managing for the first time at any level.
The Angels went 98-64 and won the American League West by 10 games despite being down to the A's by as many as six games in June. Scioscia accomplished all that despite losing ace Garrett Richards for the season in August and having to deal with a subpar and injury-filled season from former MVP Josh Hamilton.
Not bad for a manager who reportedly was on the hot seat several times as the Angels failed to make the postseason from 2010 to 2013.
"Part of the reason they played so well this year was, he just kind of has been around a long time and he just reinvented himself," Angels color analyst Mark Gubicza told Sporting News. "He made himself more accessible to the players. If they wanted to talk to him about anything, he was there for them."
Gubicza added: "The thing I really like about him is he's not only a smart guy, but he realizes the importance of building relationships with people, whether it's the players, even members of the media. Managers are guarded. ... I know the passion was there. I flat-out asked, 'What do you feel about all these rumors?' He goes, 'You know what? I'm going to be here and I'm going to win.' Once you saw that look in his eye, you knew that he was going to win again. ... What do you do when people say you should be fired? He looks right at you and says, 'Nope. I'm going to be here and I'm going to be here for a long time and I'm going to continue to win. I thought it was pretty cool when he said that."
Bill Rigney (1962) and Scioscia (2002, 2009) are the Angel skippers who previously won the SN award.
WILLIAMS 'PUSHED THE RIGHT BUTTONS' Over in the Senior Circuit, Williams' Nationals dominated the NL East a year after falling short of the playoffs under Davey Johnson. The Nats went 96-66 and finished 17 games ahead of the Braves and Mets, the biggest margin in any division.
“I think more than anything, he kind of stayed out of our way and let us play,” right fielder Jayson Werth told The Washington Post last month. “He pushed all the right buttons and pulled all the right strings. He did a good job — first-year manager. He was given a good team, though, and he didn’t screw it up.”
Nationals radio play-by-play broadcaster Dave Jaegler told Sporting News Williams brought the "hard-nosed, grinding" style he had as a player to his role as manager.
"You knew he was going to be well-prepared. Also, because of his playing career, he understood the ups and downs of a long season, and he would not panic after a bad game or two. ... Matt set the tone for the 2014 season in spring training with his attention to detail. A month before spring training, he had scripted out every minute of every workout and day of spring training. The Nationals were a talented but underachieving team in 2013. The 2014 team developed a grinding, hard-nosed personality. They became a more aggressive team and improved defensively. They also had a the knack for the come-from-behind victory which had been lacking in 2013."
Williams is the second Nationals skipper to be SN Manager of the Year, following Johnson in 2012. The franchise also had winners during its time as the Montreal Expos: Gene Mauch (1973), Buck Rodgers (1987) and Felipe Alou (1994).

Along with everything else that went on during last nights game, there was this little bit of philanthrophy.
Fan Blows $300 Buying Hot Dogs For His Section At The World Series
But, as it was not team sanctioned, and as it became kind of a distraction, the powers that be finally stepped in and made him stop.
I guess the No Fun Police can be found just about anywhere......

Funny. All it takes for me to that much more appreciate the few folks that come and visit me, is for me to go to a thread that is active and has posters, and for me to be by and large ignored.
As such, Geneh & Red, THANK YOU! Your visits keep me from talking to myself all day long.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Back in April, Major League Baseball announced that a new award would be handed out on an annual basis to the best relief pitcher in each league. The AL version of the award is now known as the Mariano Rivera Award, and the first winner of it is Royals closer Greg Holland.
The announcement was made by commissioner-to-be Rob Manfred before Game 2 of the 2014 World Series, with Craig Kimbrel winning the NL version, the Trevor Hoffman Award.
This is a very humbling experience," said Holland. "You kinda get iffy any time your name is put on a plaque with these two guys [Rivera and Trevor Hoffman]."
Holland, 28, closed down 46 of his 48 save chances for the Royals with a 1.44 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 90 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings this season. For the second straight time, he was named an All-Star.

The headline is about how Adam Dunn ruinded baseball. The gist of the story is not so much about him, but about guys like him, Mark Reynolds, and all other guys that either K, walk, or hit 500ft homers. Kind of a long read, so be forewarned. www.hardballtimes.com/did-adam-dunn-ruin-baseball/
