Fourth crack at this as trades and signings have made the mock being worked on irrelevant before I had finished, Here is my fourth attempt at 2.0
1) Cleveland Browns Josh Allen QB Wyoming -Heart says Barkley gut says Allen brain says Darnold. Gut wins out as this draft becomes QB-centric early in the draft
TRADE*** Buffalo trades with the NY Giants 12th, 21st and 2019(1) in draft for this spot.
2) Buffalo Josh Rosen QB UCLA -Bills get their 1st Franchise QB since Jim Kelly. Darnold is definitely in play here as well but scheme fit says Rosen
3) NY Jets Sam Darnold QB USC -Jets fans hope this goes better than their last USC QB pick then nickname him the "Sam-chize".
4) Cleveland Bradley Chubb Edge NC State -Barkley or a trade down are other options.
5) Denver Sasquon Barkley RB Penn State They probably prefer Chubb here but as he went 4th they give Keenum a back that the opposition will have to worry about. Expect their play action passing to be near the top of the league in usage in ‘18
6) Indianapolis Quenton Nelson OG Notre Dame Ballard's 1st pick ain't sexy, but a spot of desperate need. Luck has to stay upright for the Colts to compete. With schematic changes on both sides of the ball, in particular on D where there are a few square pegs to fit into round holes. Would be very happy to move back a few spots to garner more draft capital to fill round holes. Although I think keeping their franchise player healthy should be concern number 1
7) Tampa Bay Denzel Ward CB Ohio State -One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl. Obligatory Jerry Reese dig. Ward grades similar to former backfield mate Lattimore, who obviously should have gone higher
8) Chicago Minka Fitzpatrick S/NCB -Vea Edmunds Davenport and Roquan Smith other possibilities here. Bears fans surely groaned when Nelson went 6th and although there are a lot of future starting RT’s in this draft class, none are graded high enough to take here. Expect them to address that day 2 as well as a sideline to sideline 3down ILB. Depth is a issue here so I wouldn’t be surprised by a couple trade downs to accumulate more picks
****TRADE Miami trades 11 and 2019 pick (3) to San Fran for 9th
9) Miami Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma -Rumor has it Gase loves this guy. Now he has him. Defensive line and edge are major needs that they will have to fill later
10) Oakland Roquan Smith LB Georgia -Mack needs some help on D. Scouts have given him a comp of Ray Lewis without the thug side
11) San Francisco Marcus Davenport Edge UT-San Antonio Raw with huge upside. Lynch is playing with house money now
12) NY Giants Da'Ron Payne DT Alabama -Textbook Gettleman pick . Run stuffer who’ll clog the middle. Not much in the way of pass rush in college but is projected to be better as a pro.
13) Washington Vita Vea DT Washington Run stuffer fills a major need in DC. Everyone comps him as a Ngati clone but he has the potential to play all over the line getting blocking mismatches can get up the field quite well for that big of a guy to boot.
14) Green Bay Derwin James S Florida St. Box safety/LB hybrid. Hard to project here with no one knowing new GM Gutekunst’s philosophy. I am betting he won’t be Thompson 2.0. Major needs include CB, OLB
15) Arizona Lamar Jackson QB Louisville -highest ceiling QB in draft, lowest floor of the top 5. Basically would be a red shirt season to learn but how often does Bradford actually last a season
16) Baltimore Tremaine Edmunds LB Virginia Tech -Ozzie's last 1st rounder. Fairly certain they’d like Lamar and would have to jump ahead of the Cards to do that
17) LA Chargers Leighton Vander Esch LB Boise State –one year starter may start originally as a weakside LB. Should develop into an all purpose LB
18) Seattle Harold Landry Edge Boston College – although Will Hernández would make Russell Wilson happy. And some would call for a CB here, an edge rusher is more important to the Seattle scheme than the LoB-
19) Dallas DJ Moore WR Maryland Fast rising prospect over looked due to horrendous QB play. Still Big Ten WR of the year. Player comp OBJ without the diva personality
20) Detroit Taven Bryan DT Florida -The son of a Navy SEAL shows excellent motor, quick first step, agile and strong.. Still raw and need of refinement will need to be part of a rotation early in career.
21) Cincinnati James Daniels C Iowa - Doesn’t even turn 21 till early in the 2018 season. Should be able to carry even more weight as he fills out. Technician with quick movement off the snap. High football IQ. Bengals rebound from terrible line play in 2017 with acquisition of Cordy Glenn and Daniel
22) NY Giants Connor Williams OT, Texas –Projected as a top 10 pick after his Junior year. The nastiness Gettleman loves in his O linemen. A RB could be in play here as well, although I believe they will wait till day 2
23) New England Kolton Miller OT UCLA, -athletic with the length needed for the blindside. Hoodie protects his most important asset after letting Solder collect mega bucks in Manhattan.
24) Carolina Calvin Ridley WR Alabama - Very good route runner and great at contested catches . OG’s Hernandez or Wynn are other possibilities. A succession plan for Greg Olsen could be addressed here or day 2
25) Tennessee Will Hernandez OG UTEP –Biggest hole on offense IMO is guard, left and right. Here is a 10 year starter to alleviate this. Edge rucher, ILB and CB are other needs here as well
26) Atlanta Maurice Hurst DT Michigan 3 tech with good burst. Medically cleared after being sent home from combine
27) New Orleans Mike Gesicki TE Penn State -Some picks just make too much sense
28) Pittsburgh Rashaan Evans ILB Alabama Another MLB from the new Linebacker U. Love to put Guice here but think they’ll wait till day 2
29) Jacksonville Mike McGlinchey OT Notre Dame –Pittsburgh taking Evans solved who the Jags take. Sutton a possibility as well
30) Minnesota Isaiah Wynn OG Georgia
31) New England Josh Jackson CB Iowa
32) Philadelphia Courtland Sutton WR SMU
