Workers Left Behind?t’s troubling, however, that the number of middle-aged workers has fallen by roughly 5.5 million. Part of that is the aging of the workforce, as baby boomers move from one age group to another. But for every age group under 55, the percentage of people working has fallen significantly — especially for those between 35 and 55. Breaking down the job totals by sector explains why. There are about 1.5 million fewer construction jobs now than at the end of 2007, and 1.6 million fewer manufacturing jobs. Those two sectors account for nearly half the 7.3 million jobs lost in four of the five age categories. The rest of the lost jobs are spread across sectors such as retail, information, finance and government. Men are still down about 1 million jobs from 2007 levels, while women are ahead by about 540,000. That’s probably because more women work in stable fields such as healthcare and education, whereas men tend to work in more-cyclical businesses. Women have also been earning more bachelor's and graduate degrees, giving them better qualifications. And while construction and manufacturing have been adding jobs and will probably continue to, employment in those fields may not reach pre-recession levels for years.

so that's over 3 mil people that used to have jobs and those jobs required you to actually WORK...
and those people now get called lazy (mostly by people who's "job" seems to be posting on line all day lol)because they can't find a job...even tho a lot of jobs just went away...
I got laid off in 2006 after 20 years with my co...I was the last to be let go, thought it would be a short time thing and things would pick up...been almost 8 years now...But it does seem like things are finally starting to get better for construction anyway.

We are going through another automation phase and people will adjust. Walmart/grocery cashiers are going away and people growing up now will find other ways to work

every positive stride (which is amazing given congress gridlock) will be undone during the next debt ceiling and govt shutdown debacle when we actually get downgraded enough and lose our status as the global reserve currency.
buckle up.

Construction took the biggest hit...I do have experience in other fields but not very recent, like over 20 years...I had 0 shot to get a job I didnt really want and that would pay shitty lol Even now in my trade I'd be lucky to make $15 an hour and they want you to know plumbing and electrical too,,,So I just started my own off the grid carpentry company lmao .But even when I dont have work I'm up early looking...Nobody that knows me would ever call me lazy.I bust my ass. it was either that(start my own "business") or starve,,,I couldn't get any more assistance when my benefits ran out. I Hated to have to apply for food stamps but it was middle of winter and I was flat broke...And I got turned down after working steady for 30+ years...Fortunately someone answered my ad on craigslist and gave me some work, might have saved my life because I was thinking bad thoughts at the time...I became pretty good friends with that guy too. He had been ripped off bad by craigslist "contractors" so he's always saying I restored his faith in humanity lol He's always got something for me to do, I'm,working for him now...6 years later

People like you Zig shouldn't feel ashamed to get food stamps. You truly did need them at the time. There are plenty of people abusing the system but you are not one of them.
