How do you guys think the rotation(top 3) will be set up? I think Sale should be #1 but he is the new guy so who knows what Farrell does? This is how I would have it
Sale Porcello Price
I like Price to be better this year but I think the lefties need to be split up?

Hanley Ramirez has a sore shoulder and Tyler Thornburg has an ERA over 45.00. Good thing it's only March 1st.

And Hanley being sore is not a big surprise. My guess is that he went a little light on the training, knowing he gets 40 games in the field this year tops.

Henry Owens has been absolutely awful this Spring. Just about time to give up on him.
Meanwhile, Brandon Workman has been great in his first action in almost 2 years. They have missed him. He could provide a boost this year.

Steven Wright and Pomeranz haven't even been stretched out yet.

OWENS AMONG SIX FARMED OUT BY RED SOX; PRICE TO START YEAR ON DL The Red Sox made their first round of cuts Tuesday morning, and at least one name was no surprise. Left-hander Henry Owens, whose struggles have been the talk of the Sox' spring-training camp, was one of six players shipped out. He, fellow left-hander Brian Johnson and right-hander Brandon Workman were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, while third baseman Rafael Devers, outfielder Junior Lake and catcher Jordan Procyshen were returned to minor-league camp for reassignment. Barring several injuries to Red Sox starters, Owens wasn't going to start the season in Boston anyway. But he's been miserable so far in the exhibition season -- 0-3 in his three starts with a 15.95 ERA, an opponents' batting average of .382 and a WHIP of 3.41, 12 walks allowed in 7 1/3 innings -- and is now talking about tweaking his mechanics in an attempt to solve his command problems. That he was one of the first cuts indicates the Red Sox are concerned. Manager John Farrell told reporters the three pitchers sent out "need work", and, via Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, said specifically of Owens: "He knows he's capable of more . . . He knows he needs to get better." Also, Farrell said -- to no one's surprise -- David Price is likely to start the season on the disabled list. Price is still recovering from elbow and forearm issues that sidelined him earlier this month and has yet to throw off a mound. Until he does, the Red Sox can't begin to construct a timetable for his return. www.csnne.com/boston-red-sox/henry-owens-farmed-out-by-boston-red-sox-david-price-to-start-year-dl

This is how I would have it Sale Porcello Price I like Price to be better this year but I think the lefties need to be split up? Rick Porcello Named Red Sox Opening Day Starter March 15, 2017 12:46 PM BOSTON (CBS) — It’s official: Rick Porcello will toe the rubber when the Red Sox open their 2017 season in 19 days. Boston manager John Farrell announced his decision on Wednesday, choosing the reigning AL Cy Young winner over the newly acquired Chris Sale. It was a decision Farrell said he made at the start of Spring Training, and Porcello has known for some time that he’d be getting the nod against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park on April 3. This will be the first Opening Day start of Porcello’s career, after the righty went 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA in 2016. Farrell said that Chris Sale will get the start in Boston’s second game of the season two days later, but the rest of the rotation remains TBD. With David Price likely beginning the season on the disabled list, it’s lined up for lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to start the third game of the season, with knuckleballer Steven Wright and lefty Drew Pomeranz likely getting the ball when Boston travels to Detroit for their second series of the season. boston.cbslocal.com/2017/03/15/rick-porcello-named-red-sox-opening-day-starter/

Xander Bogaerts expected to be heading in the six hole to start the season. This is rumored to be some form of punishment because he participated in the WBC and agreed to play Third Base.

maybe to put a lefty between Pedroia & Betts.

I think they will line up this way to have more of a left-right balance: Pedroia Benintendi Betts Hanley JBJ Bogaerts Moreland Panda Leon Leon isn't much of a hitter, BTW. Mediocre at best.

By punishnent, do you mean bc he hit .227 in the wbc? The "punishment" comment is silly. Pedroia, Betts, Bogaerts and Hanley are all right-handed. You need to split them up somehow.

Pomeranz looks like shit. That Espinosa trade gets worse by the day. Yeah. That one is going to sting. Pomeranz will become a spare bullpen piece. Dombrowski had a chance to undo that trade, too. I think he blew that one.

This is amazing. The Red Sox basically can't afford to add Rusney Castillo to the roster this year:
Considering they’re not on the Red Sox’s 40-man roster, outfielder Rusney Castillo and first baseman/outfielder Allen Craig are already facing uphill battles to achieve relevance in Boston. Moreover, their onerous contracts make even short promotions to the majors unlikely, notes WEEI’s John Tomase.
Castillo, for instance, would cost the Red Sox $56,596 per day to keep on their 25-man roster. Thus, a two-week stint with the Sox would cost $800K and push them over the luxury-tax threshold, which they’ve been careful to stay under. Castillo and Craig have upped their stock this spring, writes Bradford, but the team unsurprisingly sent the pair back to Triple-A on Sunday. They’ll combine to make $21.5MM in the minors this season.

Steve Selsky to become a household name? Is he going to make the team? He's had a really good Spring....although we've seen that one before.

I thought he was just Minor League outfield depth. Rutledge can go.
