They may say it's a trade but he was sold the 15Mil meant more than Jimmy Carson or all those 1st round picks. Ironically bought with stolen money by the crook who owned the Kings Bruce MdNall. Are there team,s in Anaheim or San Jose with out this deal probably not definitely not in Anaheim. And does Gretz get to play beside Bo and MJ in Prostars on Saturday mornings Hell no although the world could have done without that show

I think the Sharks would surely have been in existence with or without Gretzky, but the Ducks would be iffy. On one hand, you could just as easily attribute Disney's decision to get into hockey because of the success of "The Mighty Ducks" movie, on the other hand, seeing Kings attendance rise in each of the first 4 years under Gretzky certainly certified Southerm California as a viable hockey market.

It made Norm Green's decision to come to Dallas a little easier too. That gets overlooked around here but I do recall at the time the league really wanted to extend their presence in the southern areas of the states. It's worked (Stars / Bolts)... it's had mixed results (Preds / Yotes)... and then there are the Panthers. But Gretzky to the Kings started the ball rolling.

Not sure how true this is, but wasn't there a rumor that Norm Green's wife wanted him to move out of Minnesota so he would be away from his mistress?

They won California's first Cup, got star players like Getzlaf/Perry/Kesler/Fowler, yet they're the least valuable NHL team in in California.

Never heard that one so I'll speculate angry North Stars fans planted that seed.

Good points... strange ... maybe they have the least lucrative local TV deal(s) ? Or , my theory - Perry is such a worldwide dickface he actually drops the value of the Team ;-)

It's working pretty good in Nashville now Atlanta and Carolina not so well In Phoenix it WAS working okay till they moved to the burbs. Florida meh. The biggest mistake was getting rid of the division playoffs set up they just brought back You need rivalries. Hate sells
