I voted 3-1 but 4-0 wouldn't shock me. The Cards week 1 is by the toughest but plenty of time to game plan for that 1...Outside of the QB position this might be the best all around Pats team since 2004...

Well Garoppolo is the best back-up he's had so that must mean that Brady ain't as good and yeah he's getting on and I only expect 1 to 2 years tops more for him. This is actually a godsend to get Jimmy G some quality playing time and a feel for where he is in his development

Patriots remove Julian Edelman from PUP list Wide receiver Julian Edelman took another step on the path back to the Patriots lineup on Sunday when he was activated from the physically unable to perform list. Edelman had a second surgery on his foot this offseason after breaking it and missing seven games after the first operation last year. Edelman didn’t take part in Sunday’s intrasquad scrimmage, but caught passes from Tom Brady after doing conditioning work in pads. “It’s a progression,” Edelman said, via the team’s website. “We’re going to go in here and evaluate things, see how it feels, then come out and do it again. It’s that kind of process so it’s a day-to-day thing. You just try to go out and improve each day on your fundamentals, try to get all those things back and then knock off all the rust and all that stuff. That’s where I’m at. Any time you can go out and put pads on and practice before the season, I think it’s a good sign.” The Patriots will practice with the Saints on Tuesday and Wednesday before they meet in a preseason game Thursday. Edelman probably won’t be doing a full workload during those sessions and his return to game action will come later, but both things aren’t far off now that Edelman’s been cleared. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/08/08/patriots-remove-julian-edelman-from-pup-list/

dog gummitt FOXBORO -- Sebastian Vollmer's 2016 season is in jeopardy. The Patriots right tackle is dealing with a nagging hip injury that is keeping him on the physically unable to perform list, according to a source. From here, Vollmer could either wind up on PUP to start the regular season, which would make him unavailable for at least the first six weeks of the season, or injured reserve. Jim McBride of the Boston Globe reported that Vollmer is likely headed to IR. The other alternative with Vollmer, 32, would be to release him. Obviously, given his importance to the team both in the locker room and on the field, where he's one of the NFL's best run-blockers, that would be an unappetizing scenario. The Patriots would save $2.675 against the salary cap if Vollmer were released, according to Miguel Benzan of PatsCap.com. His 2016 cap hit is $5.214 million www.csnne.com/new-england-patriots/source-vollmer-hip-could-miss-2016-season

SOURCE: LEWIS NEEDS SECOND SURGERY, WILL BEGIN SEASON ON PUP By Tom E. Curran August 21, 2016 12:18 PM FOXBORO -- Patriots running back Dion Lewis had a complication after his ACL surgery and needs to have a second procedure, according to a source. The nature of the procedure isn't specifically known, but it doesn't involve the ACL or any other ligaments. Depending upon when he has the procedure, it should be about 8-10 weeks before he can begin training, which means he will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list. Lewis tore the ACL in a game against the Washington Redskins last November. He appeared at one OTA practice in the spring but was on the PUP list in camp and hadn't practiced. He was enjoying a breakout season before he got hurt, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, with 36 catches and four touchdowns. His ability to operate in space gave the Patriots another dimension on offense. www.csnne.com/new-england-patriots/source-lewis-needs-second-surgery-will-begin-season-pup

Patriots to cut starting center Bryan Stork In a surprising move, the Patriots are cutting their starting center, Bryan Stork. A fourth-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2014, Stork finished last season as the starting center and is listed as the starter on the Patriots’ depth chart as of Wednesday morning. But despite his status as a starter, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Patriots have decided to release Stork today. When last we heard from Stork he was getting kicked out of a practice last week, although there obviously has to be more going on than just one practice fight to get him booted out of New England. David Andrews will now be the Patriots’ starting center, and Stork will go on waivers, where it seems likely some team would claim him. Stork surely has some NFL playing time ahead of him, but that time will not be in New England. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/08/24/patriots-to-cut-starting-center-bryan-stork/

Pick him right up.

I remember back on the CBS homer board some thought I was actually a troll because I had the nerve to question so many of Hoody's moves. Especially the Seymour deal. That was a total dick move on BBs part. I love him as HC but as the GM I think he's cost us another Lombardi or 3. And probably cost us one as the HC last year too. No excuse for some of those calls/losses like say to the Eagles and Jets

Barkevious Mingo was a superstar at LSU, a pass-rushing menace off the edge with the speed of a defensive back and the power of a defensive end. He had eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a sophomore during a breakout year.
Mingo was taken 6th in the 2013 draft by the Browns and did absolutely nothing. Cleveland is where careers go to die, and Mingo was a complete non-factor with the Browns, and now, he’s been traded. Typical Browns – multiple regimes, multiple losing seasons, and multiple draft picks that amount to nothing. Related: Barkevious Mingo Thinks Browns Could Have the Best Defense in the NFL
Amazingly, the Browns already gave up on the 6th overall pick. After three seasons. After seven sacks in 46 games. This is why the Browns are the worst-run franchise in the NFL.
Was he a bad fit scheme-wise? The Browns haven’t said. They clearly didn’t know what to do with him, but asked him to gain 20+ pounds to become a pass rusher. Ray Farmer is the team’s defensive coach – again – and it’s safe to say after seeing Mingo as a rookie and again in his 4th year, he didn’t like what he saw. Mingo was only getting 4th quarter reps this preseason, an obvious sign he was on the outside looking in. Related: Barkevious Mingo Nearly Killed Andy Dalton on This Head Shot
From the Patriots point of view, it’s another low-risk, high-reward move. No-lose situation. Twenty other teams would have almost certainly given Mingo a shot – hell, the Jets could have used him as an edge in the 3-4 – but the Patriots were the smart ones. They saw an opportunity and pounced.
Having just traded their star pass rusher, Chandler Jones, New England has an anemic pass rush heading into the season. Let’s turn Mingo loose!
The Patriots are smart. The Browns are stupid. It’s that easy.

Report: Patriots Shopping Receiver Aaron Dobson For Potential Trade by Doug Kyed on Tue, Aug 30, 2016 at 2:54PM
A New England Patriots wide receiver soon could be on the move.
The Patriots are shopping wide receiver Aaron Dobson, sources told NFL Media’s Albert Breer on Tuesday. Dobson was selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft and appears to be on the roster bubble this summer.
Dobson has 53 receptions on 98 targets for 698 yards with four touchdowns in three seasons with the Patriots. His best season came in 2013 — his rookie year — when he had 37 catches for 519 yards with four touchdowns.
Dobson is competing with Keshawn Martin, DeAndre Carter, Chris Harper and Devin Lucien for the sixth and final receiver spot on the Patriots’ roster. Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell and Matthew Slater are locks for the 53-man roster.
Dobson has six receptions for 86 yards in three games this preseason.

TALENTED BUT INCONSISTENT TO THE END, WR AARON DOBSON CUT BY PATRIOTS By Tom E. Curran September 03, 2016 12:54 PM Earlier in camp, Bill Belichick called the Patriots’ wide receiver competition as good as he could recall. Now, a month later, the team is heaving the wideouts that didn’t make it overboard. Aaron Dobson and DeAndre Carter have both been let go, according to a source. Dobson, a second-rounder in 2013, was plagued by injuries and a less-than urgent playing style during his three seasons with the team. The past two preseason games summed up the Dobson experience nicely. Against the Panthers, he had some big-play receptions from both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo. Dobson followed those up in the final preseason game with a half-hearted blocking effort on a wide-receiver screen on the game’s first play, being easily run through on a target by Brady that turned into a pick and a falling 38-yard reception. Inconsistent to the end, Dobson will likely find a job somewhere by the beginning of the week. Carter, who went undrafted in 2015 and was with the Ravens, was signed to the New England practice squad last January. The Sacramento State product is a likely practice squad addition once he passes through waivers. The Patriots now have Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Hogan, Chris Harper and Keshawn Martin at wideout. There are rumblings that Martin may be gone by day’s end as well. www.csnne.com/new-england-patriots/talented-inconsistent-end-wr-aaron-dobson-cut-patriots
