Sid and Geno haven't really impressed me mainly because they've spent most of the playoffs with someone draped over their shoulders. I think an argument could be made for Murray. His goaltending, especially in the third period of game 4 kept the Pens in the playoffs. An argument could also be made for Kessel. Seriously, he has 10 goals, 11 assists and is a plus 6. Hornqvist is second on the team in goals with 8. Sid and Geno have 6 and 5 respectively. The only other possibility that I see would be Letang.

Kessel should win it.
IMO they should give to the whole HBK line but I know that's not possible.

Even if the Pens should happen to pull it out the Conn Smythe is going to Jones. The kid has been a brick wall, NBC loves him and I'm not sure if they're wrong.

Sid? I did not see that coming. Didn't show up in the stat sheet, but he did do a lot. I still would have given it to Jones.

Giving it to Sid (the captain) was like giving it to the whole team. Too many people had a strong case for Conn Smythe to give it to anyone else. Besides, this sort of validates Sid as the greatest player of his generation, so I'm fine with it.

Should have been Kessel... but I understand the logic behind giving it to Sid.

Should have been Kessel... but I understand the logic behind giving it to Sid. I personally thought it should've been Matt Murray. History said that every rookie goalie to win the Stanley Cup ended up winning the Conn Smythe, -Ken Dryden in 1971 -Patrick Roy in 1986 -Cam Ward in 2006 Of those 3 goalies, only Patrick Roy put up better numbers than Matt Murray.

No doubt and he stepped up when they needed those crucial wins. But I just thought the HBK line deserved the recognition. They pretty much dominated every series I watched (once the Stars were eliminated and I recovered from my sadness over our shitty goaltending...)

This is true, but don't forget they had the luxury of facing 2nd & 3rd defensive parings due to the fact that opposing teams did not want to take chances with Sid & Geno.

Just as Nieuwendyk, Langenbruner and Reid did in the 1999 playoffs when Joe won the Smythe (Although I still maintain Belfour should have won it).

I would have given it to Mike Modano that year, but I believe they gave it to Joe Nieuwendyk because his stats were comparable to Modano's, plus he was quite dominant in the face off circle, which gave the Stars a big edge (they had no fear icing the puck when Nieuwendyk was on the ice).

Yes. Nieuwendyk absolutely dominated faceoffs. And most down here agree that either he or Belfour deserved the award (including Modano). My memories of that playoff (beyond the 3 OT against the Oilers in Game 4 and all those OT games against the Blues in the second round) was this. Game 5 WCF... Stars got into a shootout and lost 7-5 after which Hitch said "I hope we got that out of our systems". Lemueux scores at the end of the first period of Game 6. So now we're down 1-0 in Denver... 3-2 in the series ... and Belfour absolutely slammed the door on them from that point on. They got a goal in the third period of Game seven after the Stars wore Roy's ass out in the first two periods. SCF - gave up 3 in Game One and no more than 2 in the remaining 5 games. He was stellar. But Game 6 changed everything. And he was the dude. I have no problem with Nieuwendyk winning it. I just thought Belfour deserved it a little more.

Seems to me the Conn Smythe somewhat misses the mark. It implies that 1 player made the difference, when it really takes a team to lift the Cup. Nice to have it on your resume however.
