Getting ready to head to California today. I've liked him since you posted him on an earlier site (was going to say FN, but there have been so many...lol)

As little as this year's Super Bowl halftime show impressed me - last year's impressed me a whole lot. Young Bruno has "something". Read a piece on Bruno Mars a few years ago. He studies the history of popular music, in all its forms, and incorporates that into his music. Looking back, as well as forward. I too heard Uptown Funk, drawn by the title, and enjoyed it. That's what I took away as I read into him a bit. His performance last year made me check out "Doo-Wops...". Really liked it. And he's talented as hell. That's all I ask for with the new acts hitting the scene. Show me something besides what the music industry wants me to see.

Here's a sample: Yeah he's awesome He's one of those "word of mouth" guys that I got turned onto and immediately proceeded to download a few albums. I haven't hit that Facebook link yet... always fear what might happen if I do that. But - I'm getting closer. Gary Clark Jr. is another of them. Saw him last year on the R&RHOF doing the tribute to Albert King... then spoke to my brother-in-law in the Austin area who said "Dude - seriously? I haven't told you how bad ass he is?" Try his live offering out. Serious talent.

Rock isn't dead. Only the format we were presented it is dead. Way, way dead.
The music industry as currently constituted doesn't allow us as "consumers" to sample product unless it passes muster with what their "demographic study data" tells them will pass muster. And - you and I aren't in that demographic. Neither, I suspect, are many on here. Corporate radio leaves little wiggle room for varied tastes unless it's properly segmented and sorted and placed in its correct "classification" for air play. Problem with that - there is no FM frequency "slot" for Bonamassa, or Clark, or Cody Canada (personal favorite down here)... a FM station almost has to be unplugged from any conglomerate affiliation to do that at which point they are left to the whims of the Clear Channels and the Susquehannas of the world... and (as I learned when I had a subscription) Sirius/XM isn't a haven either. Corporate music sucks.
That's why I listen to anything someone recommends here. I may or may not like it - but I have a choice.

Listening to these voices in my head. Is that a bad thing? More like Rap than Rock. Does it still count?

Can get good music in hour long slots during the week on BSU's radio, but I work during those hour. Occasionally catch Private Idaho Saturday mornings. That's where I first heard Etta James version n of You Gotta Serve Somebody and Levon Helm's When I Go Away.

FM stations USED to be the ones that played the "not normal' music and to hell with what others said. Sadly, they have gone the way of big money. Biggest example is how "Country" music now has rap. Love the Southern Rock style so no problems there...but now it is Rap or only about how much you can drink and the girl in the tight jeans or short shorts sitting in yore truck....smh

Texas station is very eclectic and I enjoyed it when my grandson was down there. But the signal is typical college strength and doesn't make it up here 60 miles north. Damn shame. We have a local station that tries to reach across genres but it's mostly along the lines of new "rock". I do give them credit in that they actually play the new Godsmack album. The Dallas stations dont.

CJ -92 in Calgary is a good FM Rock Station , i wish they would play more new rock , even more new rock from the artists of the past. Van Halen , Aerosmith , AC/DC all have newer albums than the 3 or 4 of each band that they continuously draw songs from.

Know what, dyhard? I listened to that. While it wasn't my cup of tea, I listened to it. And will listen to every song you post. I am willing to dig through a mountain of coal to find that diamond. So keep posting them. Thank you, appreciate it. I listen to all types of music but I really like rap the most and can find a lot of really good gems

Trip from Medford, OR to Yreka, CA...listen to Y2K Country...Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw...good stuff. Not as good as the "old" country, or the Nelson/Jennings country, but good stuff.
Other than that I'm listening to my wife, in my head, to stop drinking that shit and go to bed....but that's just me.

Old man was in fine form and the band was tight. He can still bring the fret work also. Good show. And yes - a few Shiner Bock's prior are mandatory in a place where they only sell the swill of AB.
