According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Astros have signed top first base prospect Jonathan Singleton to a five-year contract with three club options. The historic deal -- a first for a player with zero major league service time -- carries $10 million in guaranteed money and can be worth up to $35 million if all the options and incentives are triggered. Singleton, 22, will be promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City before Tuesday's game against the Angels to take over as Houston's regular first baseman. He was sporting a .941 OPS, 14 home runs, and 43 RBI in 54 games this season at Triple-A and should be owned in all mixed fantasy leagues. The contract costs Singleton quite a bit of earning power and is a big win for the Astros' front office even if the kid doesn't completely meet the hype

Singleton has been informed that he'll be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday's game against the Angels, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. Spin: Singleton has the potential to provide the Astros with an immediate power boost, as he's racked up 14 home runs over 54 games this year in the minors, to go along with a .267/.397/.544 slash line. It's currently unclear how he'll fit into the Astros' lineup on a daily basis, but it's unlikely that the 22-year-old is getting the call to warm the bench. Look for him to see time at first base, potentially putting the reps of Chris Carter, Marc Krauss and Jesus Guzman in danger. As a top Astros' prospect heading into the year, Singleton is definitely worth a look on the waiver wire for owners in need of power. He's also shown strong plate discipline for a young player, owning a 52:42 K:BB ratio on the year. Additionally, Singleton has reportedly signed a long-term contract extension with the Astros, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. The deal can last up to eight years and is worth $10 million guaranteed, a contract that is truly unprecedented for a player with no major league service time.
