NFL passes one-year trial of two-foul ejection rulePosted by Josh Alper on March 23, 2016, 9:58 AM EDT Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera argues after Luke Kuechly was ejected from the game during the second half of an NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, in Green Bay, Wis. (AP Photo/Tom Lynn) AP On Tuesday, it looked like the NFL owners would turn down the proposal to institute a new rule calling for players to be ejected if they received a pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the same game. Things changed on Wednesday, however. According to multiple reports from the league meetings in Boca Raton, Florida, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said that the proposal passed on a one-year basis. It’s the same path the league took when they agreed to move the snap for extra point kicks to the 15-yard-line last year. That rule was largely seen as a successful tweak to the game and was adopted on a permanent basis at this year’s meetings. Some coaches had expressed concern this week about players baiting opponents into getting a second foul that removes them from the game when discussing their misgivings about the rule and Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman recently laced into NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s support for it. Those feelings may have led to the decision to go with a one-year trial rather than a full adoption of the rule, but weren’t enough to stop the league from moving forward altogether. Touchback rule is resurrected, passed for a yearPosted by Mike Florio on March 23, 2016, 10:04 AM EDT As of Tuesday, the proposal to change the touchback point was dead. As of Wednesday morning, it’s not only revived but also the law of the land. For one season. Owners have voted to change the placement of a kickoff that goes through the end zone, or that is downed in the end zone, from the 20 to the 25. The rule was passed on an experimental basis; in 2017, at least 24 owners will have to vote in favor of the provision again. Otherwise, the touchback point will revert to the 20. The rule is aimed at encouraging more touchbacks, in an effort to reduce the number of kickoff returns. Multiple coaches believe that it will result in more kickoff returns, because more teams will kick the ball short and try to pin the receiving team inside the 25. Whether the number of kickoff returns decreases or increases remains to be seen. As one source explained it on Tuesday to PFT, the NFL should be concerned that constant acknowledgement that the kickoff return is the most dangerous play in the game will become a powerful piece of evidence against the league if/when a player who suffers a serious injury on a kick return sues the NFL and/or the NFL Players Association — especially if the league tweaks the rules in a way that triggers more, not fewer, returns. 0-3 NFL NFL tables Baltimore’s replay proposalPosted by Mike Florio on March 23, 2016, 10:22 AM EDT At a time when plenty of momentum has built toward a change in the NFL’s replay system, the league has pressed pause on the process for two months. Baltimore’s proposal to replace a list of reviewable plays with a list of non-reviewable plays has been tabled. Bears chairman George McCaskey tells PFT that the measure will be considered during the next ownership meeting, in May. McCaskey also added the he opposes the proposal. If at least eight other owners feel that way, the rule will have no chance of changing. The NFL is balancing a desire to get calls right with the importance of avoiding undue delay in the total time for play a game. The real challenge is to come up with a way to embrace technology in a manner that allows the officials to quickly incorporate the images everyone sees at home into the rulings made on the field. NFL tables Baltimore’s replay proposaland I think this is pretty much what Hoody has been pushing for, more reviewable plays. Why they credit the Raisins? lol

Touchback rule is resurrected, passed for a year yeah this makes no sense if the idea is less injuries. I can see kickers trying to kick it high and to the 5 or closer to the EZ instead of in to it.
