Please indulge me while I compare this era to the time frame of 1991 when the Lions last won in Green Bay.
In 1991 I was still barely young enough (34) to compete as an NFL player (if I had talent, which I did not).
In 2015 I am a middle aged disabled retiree.
In 1991 gas was relatively expensive ($1.12 / gallon average).
In 2015 it is still relatively expensive ($2.20 / gallon average, adjusted for inflation, close).
Now in football terms...
In 1991 the Lions won their first playoff game after beating GB in the last game of the season. Their coach was Wayne Fontes and their GM was Chuck Schmidt. They both sucked.
In 1991 their QB was a two headed monster (Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer...the latter nearly committed suicide 6 months ago...the former married Holly Robinson and forgot about the Lions and is happy). But in football terms, both sucked.
In 2015 they have an overall top draft pick in Matthew Stafford, who sucks.
In 2015 they are hapless at 2-7 but won for the first time there since Don Majkowski started. Their GM has been fired and he sucked. The coach that began the season is still the coach. Both suck.
In 1991 they had Barry Sanders.
In 2015 they have a fumble prone rookie from Nebraska. Sucks. Johnny Rodgers won a Heisman with Nebraska in the 1970's while and sucked as a pro. Billy Sims subsequently won one for the Sooners and the only reason the Lions got him before 1980 is taht they had the top pick. Ameer Abdullah didn't win and sucks as a pro. Nebraska RBs suck as pros. Oklahoma and Okie State RBs are generally awesome as pros. The Lions, regardless of their top draft pick no-brainers cannot make a good pick other than those picks.
Conclusion. Sorry you had to read all this crap unless actually found it interesting. The conclusion is that the Lions suck regardless of who's in political office, how much gas costs, how old I am, and who is running the team.
